Is that a dig at the ghettoness of Southfield? I haven't heard great things about it, but I figure if I stay near the highway...

I don't want to just order room service, I'd rather eat at a different nice restaurant for dinner every night I'm there.

Thanks for the info on Canada

He doesn't know what he's talking about. Southfield is not dangerous or the ghetto and why would you want to visit Windsor? Now that is white trash.
gee thanks Barney!

If you decide to come over, I recommend Il Gabiano's on Erie Street or any other of the EXCELLENT Italian eateries there! Little Italy in Windsor is a food-lover's dream. If you want a pint, check out Spicoli's on the west side of town. It's not flashy or fancy, just a great place for a beer.

Plenty of good places to eat in Windsor. Haven't made it over there in a couple of years though since last time I went it took waaaaay too long to get back over the border. 🙁

Wow, that's original!

Yea and a load of BS I work in downtown Detroit...yea the violence happens...happens in a lot of big cities these days....stereotypical ass...

WOW thanks for all the replies, i'll check out as many links and recommendations as I can, hopefully some are close... i JUST got into the hotel room and am beat after a 7 hour drive and my credit card company declining my card as it was flagged as lost or stolen (hrm, I buy gas in KY, then gas and food in Lima, OH, then try to stay at a hotel in Southfield, MI, all of the places are along I75, not like there were charges in NYC then 10 minutes later LA or something)

I'm staying at the Comfort Suites in Southfield, located here:

http://www.comfortsuitessouthfield.com/largemap.html

Corner of Evergreen Rd and 10 mile.

and the training place is Dataplanners Inc, which is supposedly right next door, but I didn't see it on my way in...

http://www.dataplanners.com/ Click on the Hotel and Directions link

Remember, this is my first time in the Detroit area and I damn near got turned around getting to this hotel (although it was already dark) so anything VERY close by to the hotel would be best 🙂

Over on 10/evergreen there is a strip mall with a subway/qdoba/roly poly. If you drive towards 10.5 mile on Greenfield you will find a tgi friday/potbelly/chipolte. Those are all within a mile. The reason I know this area inside out is that I went to school for 5 years at Lawrence Tech (right across the express where you are staying at) and work there.

PS. Don't eat at that Kerbys Coney Island by your hotel. Its pretty dirty.

Royal Oak isn't far. You are about 10 minutes from it. Basically just go East 5 miles and you turn left on Main street. It's a fairly happening place.

Another vote for Royal Oak (I live there). Park somewhere and just walk down to main st., everything is pretty centralized in about a 1 square mile area. There are also a few places to eat and bars on Washington st. and a few side streets in Royal Oak that are very good as well.

edit: oh, and if you go there and it is a nice day, every Wednesday is cruiser bike night (you will see a couple hundred Harleys parked all over) and every Thursday is sportbike night.

I'm usually in RO on Thursdays since I go to the bars with a few sportbike riders...start at The Rock and then make our way to other bars.

Have you made any decisions on where you want to go, OP? Maybe you can turn on the ATOT bat signal, a few of us might come out from under our rocks.

I know I would.

(Although I'll be at the hospital today and tomorrow til 11pm)

I would totally be up for meeting some of you guys, Tuesday night the 12th would be great for me! Or any other night, I'm leaving for home Friday afternoon

Tonight I ended up going to a place in Farmington a buddy suggested, Cowley's and son Irish Pub. Got the fish and chips and 2 black and tans, well worth it.

Ate at the Qdoba in the strip mall for lunch, and yeah I think i'll stay away from that Coney place.

Where we going for dinner tomorrow? Someone start a Detroit ATOT meet thread!

I vote for Wednesday night, cuz I wont be working AND I can bring the girl 😉

Too bad the Golden Mushroom isn't open any longer. But I would suggest staying as far away from Royal Oak as possible. I would suggest trying:

Shiraz Wonderful food and wine and not too far from where you will be staying.

you guys should have the meet and greet at the Mongolian BBQ in Royal Oak sometime this week....

EDIT to say... i don't mind setting it up, I will even make a new post about it if we have enough interest. 🙂

How about tomorrow Wed. June 13 at 7pm at the Mongolian BBQ on Main St. in Royal Oak?

Well I'm in for tomorrow night, so make sure you return Lola's PM's so we can all have a kick ass time with Mongo tomorrow night 😀

Well one of these times I will be able to make it to one of the Detroit M&G. Working the midnight shift at Henry Ford tonight. Meh, shift premium ftw.

I grew up in Southfield but haven't lived there for many decades.

As someone else said, you should go to Joe Muers. Really close to you on Southfield Rd.

I wish I knew more restaurants to recommend, but I live about 45 min to an hour northwest now. Enjoy your stay.
