Leaving "Blackberry Storm" for new phone.

I am getting furious with this phone. It continuously stops working. This thing called a "Radio" turns off every hour and I cannot receive calls half the time. The buttons are completely unresponsive, and inaccurate and I've just had it. I use Verizon, and have used Verizon previously with an older phone so I know my signal is fine.

I love the idea of smart phones, but isn't the Storm a new(er) phone? My old phone worked better than this one! Are any new phones that work any better? I remember trying another Blackberry at BestBuy that felt comfortable but I haven't taken it home and used it for an extended period of time to see if it was any better. It is, after all, another Blackberry.

What can you guys recommend? I need something that actually works, and that wont give me as big a headache.

Thanks!

The Pre isn't available on Verizon yet.

If you want to stick with a Blackberry get the new Tour. Or if you don't mind an older phone get the Curve (that's what I have).

You could also try updating your Storm to a newer OS version that fixes some of these issues.

I haven't seen any decent phones with Verizon since the Moto e815.

(I currently have a Palm Treo Pro with AT&T.)

Verizon will exchange your Storm for Tour if you complain to them long and often enough.
Quite a few people had this exchange done.

Blackberry Tour if you want to stay with Verizon maybe?
If you want to switch providers then probably Palm Pre or and iPhone.

sounds like your bb storm isnt working. go get a new one if you had the warrenty, its only like 50 bucks deductable.

i have had my storm since launch and it works perfectly fine.

I am even loving the new revision of blackberry OSes that leaked, aka 5.0. the regular storm is on 4.7.

I'd guess you have an old OS or a bum unit. My Storm has been pretty trouble free.

Is the OS up to date? The latest official version is 4.7.0.148. The OS was terrible at release (marketing rushing it out for holiday sales before it was ready...) but it's come a long way. If you want the touchscreen, get your Storm exchanged. If the OS is up to date you probably have a bum unit.

Otherwise, look at the Tour. This is your best bet with Verizon. Otherwise you'll probably have switch carriers. While it can depend on local areas, Verizon is generally the best carrier.

I have a BB pearl and it's great. Storm is a higher end I think.. so I'd expect it to be as good or better. I'd get it checked as it may be defective. May need to repush the "service book" from whatever BES server controls it.

I wish verizon had good phones that weren't locked down and disabled beyond belief. I love their network but I hate their fucking bullshit selection of phones and how they cripple them to charge you more money.

I'd get an iphone on ATT again if ATT didn't suck so horribly in my area.

if your phone is not a year old you can get it replaced for free at any VZW store, try that first before you spend money on a new phone. It will take up to an hour because they have to do "diagnostics" lol :( I had to replace mine lady would not believe me

If you haven't updated the OS I don't feel too sorry for you. The one out of the door was piss poor. I'm running an excellent version of the 4.7 OS and it's really a great device.

So, do an update first. It takes about 30 minutes including the backup and restore of the device. Check out Crackberry forums Storm OS section and all the stickies at the top:

This. I had a Storm for 4 months. VZW finally freed me from the bondage of Surepress and its vindictive mantra of "Get less done in more time."

No amount of tweaking will give you 256 MB of app memory. No amount of replacements will give you 35 individual keys for typing, lauching programs, and shortcuts.

Anyone who tells u their Storm works fine has not installed 24 apps, can't type faster than 60+ WPM w/ their thumbs, or simply tolerates the hourglass.

The Tour works FOR me, not the other way around. Don't be a slave to your device. In the words of William Wallace, "Freedom!"

Everyone who has a Tour loves it for the most part. You can't go wrong with it. It will only get better as they fine tune the OS and once custom themes are available.
