Leave side panel off?

Will it hurt anything to just take the side panel off and leave it off? The tower sits inside a desk where I wouldn't have to worry about anything accidently getting inside. I guess the bigger question would be, will it help keep things cooler without the side panel on?

I've done it on many rigs with no problems and they actually run cooler but do collect more dust but nothing a good blow job doesn't take care of ;)

I'm running 2 each Antec cases with side panels off. Every 6 months I use compressed air to clean off the dust.

If the case had good airflow, then removing the side panel could disrupt it. Most likely it will help however. Is this desk that your case is in vented at all? That could cause major heat problems if it isnt.

It is in a space that is open in the back and has a door in the front that I never close. The reason I started to get concerned is that when I play games with a lot of graphics the fan and the fan on the graphics card begin to run very fast and loud after a while. I have thought about getting a 3.5" bay fan or a pci slot fan.
