Leave computer on all night or turn it off?

The entire reason behind having a fast computer is to do things as fast as possible. I hate waiting. I leave it on 24/7 so I have instant access to it.
 
Do you need it on at night? If you have unfinished downloads or if your processing goes on late and you want to go to bed, then leave it on. However, if you are poor and don't want to waste the electricity, or can't sleep because of the fan noise, turn it off. Now, if it isn't doing anything productive and its no personal inconvenience to leave it on, it's up to you.
 
I leave mine on just because I like to have access to my system whenever I wake up. Also, a lot of times I encode DivX movies over night.
 
on 24/7. have swiffer on the inside and a hand towel draped across the back to deaden sound. that and i have an oscillating fan in the room anyway so its not any louder, just a different freq.

and i DL all the time

plus i know if its stable if it lasts all night.

i keep them all on. otherwise i can't sleep. the fans and consoles beeping away during the night put me to sleep.
 
Manko, i cannot believe you quoted a Lionel Richie song... I do believe thats punishable by death in the state of Texas (where Im from). Of course, everything is punishable by death in my state. Last week, an old lady jay-walked and was given lethal injection on the spot 🙂

for some reason that damn song just popped into my head when I was reading this thread. And thanks for the offer - the death penalty will be a sweet relief from the memory of "All Night Long." I'm glad I infected someone else...
 
I leave mine on at school with a few apps running like IRC and AIM in case anyone leaves me messages. Also i have things downloading sometimes, and Progress Quest up too. At home theres energy costs so i just turn it off since its not a necessity. I dont mind the noise at when i sleep though and besides, its nice to brag about uptime 🙂

I turn mine off - I'm hardly ever at home to use my main PC so leaving it on would be a serious waste of electricity.
 
I normaly leave mine on all day, even when I'm at class. I crunch for the AnandTech Folding@Home team, so I let that run all day. However, it goes off at night because I can't sleep with the fan noise....and I don't have nearly as many fans as everyone else in here 🙂
