Can anyone recommend a real leather gaming chair for a teen? Budget is around $250. Lots of PU or Faux leather out there and from experience, they break down within a couple years.

"Real" leather is going to be thin as hell and probably won't last any longer than the "pleather" ones. MOST are "bonded leather" not "REAL leather. I had a Thomasville (IIRC) chair that lasted maybe 4 years. For $200+, it wasn't a good value.

Bonded leather - we bought 2 of these and 1 of them is flaking badly after 1+ years from constant rubbing in the thigh area.

I have a Serta Posturepedic leather office chair that had been perfect for over a decade:

No.... sorry not unless you buy used.

"Pleather" (plastic-leather) or something made of "bonded" leather will be about the best you can do with new.

FWIW the bonded stuff has come a long way in terms of durability... I have a Staples gaming chair I bought almost exactly 2 years ago for about $140 and have used heavily every day since that still looks almost brand-new. (as opposed to the older ones that started flaking to bits 6 months in!)

EDIT: Same chair is on sale for $109 now and worth every penny.
($99 in red!)

It's not great BUT not terrible (lol) either... my only knock is that the padding on the seat-area gets a bit hard after many hours of gaming.

Look for used? You're not gonna get real leather, let alone with the added "gamer" tax for $250 new that isn't going to be a piece of junk in some way that will cause you to replace it within a couple of years like you would the flaking fake leather.

Actually I say put that money towards a sit/stand desk so they get off their butt some, and can lay down on their bed as well.

Something like one of the Husky brand ones from Home Depot.

Get a refurbished Herman Miller Aeron. I've had two for about a decade now, still running strong.

I expect the leather on my Steelcase Gesture to last a very long time.

What is leather gaming? And why do you need a chair for it?
On second thoughts, I don't want to know.

Thanks for this input. I literally ordered this chair this morning before I came back to see this post. $99 now in white.

Nice... pleasure to be of service! :p

As long as you have realistic expectations you should be happy with it... and (unless they've changed since I got mine 2 summers ago) no need to bother with an extended warranty for the fabric or the "indestructo" all-plastic frame.

Btw I'm showing all except blue (what I have) and grey @ $99 on the Staples website now?
