Well why did you get them? What did you want to do? Did you just go to school and not intern? Did you not have a plan or goal? Im willing to bet its not the degrees, its you, and your goals that are causing problems.

relax dude

i'm going to law school once i graduate so chill...

Well all the knowledge from the three degrees could easily be put to use in law school depending on what you decide to go into.

Hell yeah. International relations is fairly useless as well, as is sociology, antrho, etc. I think psychology is not great, although I do have it (it was the easiest science degree at my university ;)), and although I wish it was business or something more applicable to a real job, I am so glad it's not one of the ones I just mentioned :D
Especially considering that philosophy, mathematics, and economics majors score the best on law school entrance exams.
IF the philosophy grad tries to make something of himself and doesn't go off to colorado to teach skiing or something similarly futureless as that :)

Anyone who says "psychology" is a fvcking clueless moron because it has way more application in various fields in the real world than most majors.

So it seems. I think the thread title ought to be "Which degree is most likely to leave you unemployed or with a low paying job". There are a great many useful things I would like to do. Unfortunately, I have to do something less useful as I see it, simply because I need the income. My concept of useful does not equal money. Mother Theresa, for example, helped a great many people and never got wealthy for it. Some think her and those like her a fool because they sacrifice themselves in a real way to do good. If that is so, then the world needs many more fool like that.

Others would put themselves in the position of being unhappy to earn more money than they really need, when they would be happier in another field or career. Is that a "useful" thing for them to do?

I'm not bashing the post or the intent, but am just suggesting that people need to think of these things, particularly before they commit to a particular field or career.

Wow... suprised to see so many people hating on the Communications major. I have to take a Foundations of Communication class for some requirement or other, but i kind of actually like it. The community in the major is amazing. Allthe faculty want you to succeed, the major is really broad and there's a lot of hot girls in the major.

Sure you might not become a millionare with communications degree, but the field is so broad you're always guaranteed a decent job somewhere or other. Unlike say, computer engineering, where you're stuck in only one field, one trade, and can't do anything else if the economy f-cks you. By the way, Im not a communications major, but I don't think it's the most useless major.

Based on my sister who majors in International Relations at Brown, I'd have to politely disagree with you there. She had more paying internship offers last summer than anyone I know in any other major. She basically had her pick of jobs that required her to travel to all different parts of the world with all expenses paid. Not bad for just a second-year university student if you ask me. Then again, I don't know any International Relations majors except my sister, so my view of it is slightly skewed. ;)

Most fine-art/design degrees are useless.

As a philosophy major, I can say that it's gotten a bit of a bad rap. As a general degree (non-vocational), it's an excellent prelude to a myriad of 3lite jobs. Philosophy is a bit of a gamble though because there's no certain payoff, especially if you're one of the straggling children.

The thing about communications degrees isn't that the people don't get normal, even good jobs just like everyone else, it's just that the college education doesn't play that big a role in the job. i.e. someone mentioned media producer or something. The people with those jobs probably would have been qualified for the same job when the graduated high school, or perhaps after taking a few college courses. Basically, I think that a communications degree isn't a lot of "bang for the buck" as far as your overall education. Of course it would be useful if a place is only hiring people with college degrees...

Give me a reason why fine art and design are useless?

They have valid uses if you know what you are wanting to do(just like any degree). I do agree people would be morons to get a fine arts or design degrees but how no clue what they want to do.

Fine Art and Design degrees can land you a vast array of jobs. Can you get these jobs without fine art degrees? Yes you can but these days its incredibily hard to get your foot into the door for certain professional "artistic" fields without a B.F.A.

For that, I would agree, an Art History degree has no real use, other than teaching college art history.
