Ever since I started the flute in grammer and middle school I have always had a deep secret passion for playing music. Because of school and other things, and my parents suggesting that music is a waste of time, I never really pursued this passion. Well My senior year in H.S. is drawing to an end and once again I feel like I should learn the piano. I know the basics of music but do I need or should I pay $25/lesson? Or should I go to the self teaching route. Has anyone here succesfully self taught themselves the keyboard? I was looking at some digital pianos from Yamaha. What do you guys think? What's a good place to buy Digital Pianos. Ideas?

Shouldn't a senior in high school know that it's grammar? If I were you, I'd try getting the basics down and playing some simple songs, then go for lessons. There's no point paying for the first couple of lessons where you wont have a clue anyway.

I taught myself piano. learned it very well after six months and have written many songs. when i started, i didn't even know where middle C was (yeah, I was that bad). but i had a strong passion for music. i sang before teaching myself piano, so I knew ho wto rea dmusic, which helped me extensively. I love the piano, i think it's the best instrument.

this book is very good for beginners. that's what i used. completed the book in 3 months.
