Learning Resources for a Beginner

This is a little random but I feel like I have let my computer skills really slip. Not that I was some kind of guru before, but now when I hear people talk about JSP, J2EE, AJAX, etc. I feel completely lost.

I have some project ideas that I would like to try and develop and I was looking for some help on learning from the ground up to give it a shot.

This probably sounds crazy, but any help would be appreciated.
 
What kind of project are you looking to do? (Don't need to be too descriptive if you don't want to be.) Desktop app? Web app? Mobile App?

You might also want to look through the programming resources stickied thread in this forum. It might have some good beginner resources.
