Learned something this weekend, old tube TVs are worthess.

Living in NYC I can't count the number of tube sets I see a week on the corner with signs taped to them "Take me" with no takers. I am even starting to see small, older LCDs getting tossed.

Old school gamers still want them if they're a good quality set. Older consoles don't play nice with HDTVs. Beyond that, they're worthless. I always think its funny when I walk into hotels and they're still sporting the tube TVs with analogue cable.

Those days are probably coming to an end as the crt's age, they degrade. Eventually it'll be hard to find one that isn't fuzzy.

This country is spoiled and everyone feels entitled for the newer shit, even if it functions worse than the newer shit.

Well after the flat stuff started inundating our shores, I've had perfectly functioning best-in-class expensive computer monitors and a 36" Trinitron that cost me a pretty penny and waaaay better than most big box store stuff.

I had NO luck on Craigslist even if FREE(!) and all they'd have to do is come get it at my house.

Shit, if I was a college student and there was a 36" Trinitron for free, I'd race to get it for crissakes. But noo..oo...people think flat is better even if it's some Insignia crap.

Even Salvation Army refused to take it from my house. LOL! They said it was too heavy for them and were "instructed" to "save their backs". The 3 Mexican EMO dudes were afraid for their backs. Shit, I lifted my Trinitron with a scrawny friend, no problem. Millennials = pussies....even immigrant millennials!

In the end, I found a professional recycler to disassemble it for free. We both took it to his van. It's a shame. What a waste! Such good stuff that nobody wants!

if it was such good stuff, why didnt you want it?

imo, an insignia 36" flatscreen lcd at 1080p is much better then a trinitron crt even if it does have a better picture. i owned a 36" tube monitor before, what a monster.

I saw one on my street with a sign on it "free - it works!" . I thought of taking it for the parts inside such as resistors, capacitors and the flyback transformer, but never got around to it. not sure if I would have been able to carry it all the way to my house and it probably would not have fit in my car. It was at least 27" probably more like 32 though. It rained after. Surprisingly, it's now gone.

I kinda regret it now though, the flyback transformer is one of the key parts needed to build a tesla coil. I've always wanted to build one of those. 😛 Can probably get some nice beefy capacitors out of that too.

I left a 36" Sony Trinitron TV on the curb when I moved. You can't even give them away for free anymore.

Get off my lawn ... But could you take this heavy ass tv with you?

Those tube HDTVs had a great picture it's just that they weigh too much and take up too much space. When you get used to nice LED TVs that weigh nothing and are super thin you never want to go back to bulky tube TVs.

When my TV dies it will not get replaced. Internet is all I need these days.

I've still got an old 27" WEGA. I'll probably hold on to it. I've got the space and it actually has an awesome picture for some old school gaming.

I sold a 36" Sony trinton 2 years ago for 75 bucks. Told them I was not lifting it, come get it. Heavy pos.

I laughed when my friend bought a rear projection TV a few years ago. Yes, he spent less than he would have for a similar sized LCD, but the viewing angles are worse than terrible and sure enough, within a couple years it's a worthless huge pos that you can't even give away.
