My parents were depression people. No one can stretch a dollar like depression people.

Their niggardly ways haunt me to this day. If I'm wasteful or extravagant, I feel like looking over my shoulder to see if they're going to catch me.

My mom once got reported to Social Services because no one could figure out how her three girls were dressed so well with her being a single mom on welfare. She'd go to the Salvation Army and buy the biggest dress she could find ($.26) and make three dresses for the girls out of it.

Then she met my dad and said he would have had the first dollar he ever made if it wouldn't have been for her. 😀

I like your choice of words 😛

My grandmother lived through the depression. But she says that they didn't notice because they were already so poor. But they never went hungry. I guess that's an advantage of being rural uneducated farmers.

Hell, she still lives poor even though she has plenty of money.

Mmm, depression cooking. Take your comfort food and let them fester in the garbage. It's time for a few shots of whiskey, alone at home on a Saturday night, and some plain white bread. Then, dessert: Generic vanilla ice cream. But what's this, are those Reese's Pieces? No, they're ibuprofen and acetaminophen, enough to end your miserably bland existence.

😛
