I found the article interesting, thanks OP for the read. I wasn't planning on jumping off that bridge (or any bridge) and I'm reasonably certain now that I still don't :)

Same here. I've never heard of anyone either who jumped. I think a lot of people who jump are really not native to the bay area.

Same here. I mean it's not like people in the bay area live wondering which one of their friends will jump next.

As someone who grew up in the Bay Area and has a lot of family and friends who still live there, I can tell you that this statement is utter bullsh*t.

Interesting subject. Idiot writer.

I agree he is full of shit.

He even spelled Tyvex biohazard suit incorrectly. It's Tyvek. He lacks attention to detail, which should be nonexistent for a writer.

But anyways, the topic was interesting. I was a bit surprised at the part of the article where the guy who advocated for a barrier was taunted at, especially since this is San Fransisco we're talking about.

But when I thought about it, maybe the more liberal population accepts the idea of the right to die? :shrugs;

Yeah the one guy said taunters were telling him to "jump".

Your welcome. You know i lived in the Bay Area for 49 years and if someone were to ask me how many people i thought had killed themselves by jumping off of the GGBridge .i would have said i had no idea but maybe a couple of hundred at most. I was mildly shocked when i read the true figure of over 1200 in less than 70 years.

I'd tell him to jump. Screw them, one less dumbass in the world. Let people make their own decisions.

Yeah, that's a little more than 1 a month on average.

yea but big picture thats nothing. 4000 people die in car accidents each year in california alone:p the simple fact is this. there already is a barrier, the railing. a bigger barrier is the inconvenience. we are talking san francisco, going to visit the bridge generally means braving a long trip by car or if walk/bike even worse through cold and wind and rain. jumping off a bridge isn't an option thats right outside your door, you gotta work at it.

I just watched it as well, it's been in rotation on IFC.

Horribly real, an amazing film.

Telling somebody what to do doesn't sound like just letting them make their own decisions...

Survivors often regret their decision in midair, if not before. Ken Baldwin and Kevin Hines both say they hurdled over the railing, afraid that if they stood on the chord they might lose their courage. Baldwin was twenty-eight and severely depressed on the August day in 1985 when he told his wife not to expect him home till late. ?I wanted to disappear,? he said. ?So the Golden Gate was the spot. I?d heard that the water just sweeps you under.? On the bridge, Baldwin counted to ten and stayed frozen. He counted to ten again, then vaulted over. ?I still see my hands coming off the railing,? he said. As he crossed the chord in flight, Baldwin recalls, ?I instantly realized that everything in my life that I?d thought was unfixable was totally fixable?except for having just jumped.?

This is an interesting read too

hah what an egotistical narcissist (the iraqi)
