Leaked recording at US/Canada border

In hindsight, considering the officer pointed out they catch 1,100 terrorists a year (3 per day) coming through that checkpoint and there are at least 100 checkpoints along the US/Canada border, that means these questions are keeping us safe from 110,000 terrorists a year.

They are obviously effective and should continue.
Wow!

11,000 terrarists a year at one check point, and there are 140 land crossings with customs stations on the undefended border between the US/Canada. That could mean there are over 154,000 terrarists that tried to enter the US from Canada a year or roughly 1.4 million terrarists that got caught at the border checkpoints since 9/11 till now.

Either it is a shenanigan, or the US is full of terrarists that ready to blow everyone up till kingdom come.

Exactly what I was thinking. Who cares if we did get married down there? I guess maybe it would have been a problem because we would have been lying about why we were going down there. Who knows.

I assume there wasn't even a suit for you in the car either. It would have been pretty weird to sneak into the US to get married with her in a dress and you in a t-shirt.

Actually one on the roughest times I get when I cross is with my US born GF, occasionally they suspect me of trying to get her into Canada without doing the proper paperwork.

Yes, Yankees I took your jobs, and one of your hot stewardesses 😛

Wow the US officers were Fucked up, there was no reason for any of that to happen, the first office was such a dick then his dickhead coworkers back him up I sure hope they get into some trouble.

I'm not sure I see the big deal. The slight dickishness that the border agent had was normal, as far as what I heard.

And the store comment is justified, IMO.

Agent: What stores will you be visiting.
Douche: The wife wants to look at some clothes stores. She heard nice things about Maceys.

As far as stopping a guy from coming into the country who wants to spend money... last time I checked, a terrorist can visit the same places you or I can and exchange his currency, and suggest that he/she is going to go shopping at a mall in Niagra Falls. If they let everyone across who had money, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be getting the 3 terrorists a day that the one guy suggested.

It is a terrible idea to be a smart ass to someone in a position of authority (cop, border patrol, boss, whoever), regardless of how right/wrong they are. So long as they are not inflicting some sort of harm on you, grin and bear it and report it when you're cleared. Getting an attitude immediately makes you suspicious, and then the officer's actions become justified.

There is nothing wrong with a guy asking him detailed questions. The guy's response is what dictated the outcome.

I make entrances into the US through LAX about 6 times a year, and I have friends coming in from Asia about the same number if times. It's a terrible experience to come into the US, and I regard immigration officers at the same level as mall cops.

I once had a friend who was held up for an hour and got the, "go sit over there," treatment because she couldn't prove that her three year-old is her child. The kid has a US passport with the father's name and the woman has a Taiwanese passport with her maiden name. It's not clear how anyone is able to prove that their kid is really their kid. The second interviewer listened to why this woman was sent to the "sit over there" area and couldn't stop laughing, so he sent them on their way.

This was probably the fifth time that the woman had come through LAX alone with the kid, and this was the first time that they had a problem. She now carries a note from her husband stating that the kid is theirs and that the wife had permission to take the kid out of the country. I doubt it would help when an immigration officer decides he's going to be a dick for no reason.

Good point. I had not even thought of that. Very silly.

Yeah, I have heard that a lot about people that are one or the other, or even both. I went down with a friend that both a Canadian and US passport and she said she always gets hassled. Annoying.

Things still aren't as strict as they used to be. When my mother moved to the US after marrying my father, she had to bring a chest x-ray to prove she didn't have tuberculosis, and a certified letter from the mounties that she wasn't wanted for any crimes.
