Dang...am i the only guys who paid under 200 for this CARD?????? Anyways...MichaelD, didn't you realize that before you mobo posted...your video bios posted? It's cool that they are upgradable...HAIL NVIDIA~!

Ya know, right after I posted that I didn't know that a vidcard had a bios, I thought about it and ......😱 Oh yeah! Right after I hit the power button it says "NVidia GF2GTS/Pro v.xx.xx.xx across the top of the screen in beautiful black and white. Duh on me. 😱

I'm anxiously awaiting JJ650's results. If they are pretty decent, I'll flash my card too.
\<--me salivates

damn you for tempting me MichaelD!
You are the devil!
lol j/k

I might jump on that deal soon...I need to get a new processor first though...I don't think my Duron 650 will do justice to a GF3.

Shiva, (cool nick, BTW. I'm sure you know that Shiva is the Hindu God of Destruction, right?
:cool😉

I'm VERY tempted. $250 is what I paid for my GF2GTS 32mb back in January ($245, actually). The GF3 isn't completely "future-proof", nothing is, but it's architecture is one that'll be the standard that game programmers will be using for quite some time, I think. My Birthday is in two weeks. Hmmmmmm....My dear Mom usually sends me a little change for my B-day. I could prolly come up w/a few bucks myself....I'm really thinking about it.

I'm really big into the bundles that hardware comes with. The bundle was the reason I bought my XGamer sound card. I really liked NOLF. I got the "teaser" version on a CDR that comes with PC Gaming Magazine. I thought it was pretty cool. I didn't like MDK for some reason. But Dronez does look kewl. Have you looked at the Morpheus review? It's got nice ram sinks and a really nice GPU HSF....tempting.....

Ok, it's lunch time now. I have not flashed it yet but I will go ahead and post my 3dmark scores before flash as grounds for a basis comparison

@ 1.3 ghz = 3346
@ *900 = 3011

*current system settings

BTW, the card itself is a Leadtek card. A pretty good overclocker.
Downloading the bios file now.
Hopefully, if I can stuff my face fast enough I can do the bench before I zip on back to work.

*edit*

ooooooook. The link to get that file is dead now. Can anyone else get the link to work?

Haven't read entire thread but some asked about awflash. It's very easy to do, follow real easy instructions that should come with in, in pdf if I remember right.
You will find that this is one of those installs that work as it should first time out!
At least it was for me and I'm certainly no tech!!
Good luck and thanks for the tip. I'm gonna check - I have that video card.

I did some testing on my Creative GF2 GTS w/32MB.
Pre flash, it was something like 2.15.xxx BIOS; got 3119 3DMarks in 2001
After the flash, it gave 3115. I did notice something fixed though - in the Dragothic test, I could always see the woman through the dragon, as if the z-buffer forgot to obscure her when the dragon was in front. That has been fixed.

Hi Jeff7,

Thanks for posting your results! I've the same card as you (Creative). Hmm..when I get home tonite, I need to check out the Dragothic test...I've never noticed whether or not you can see the woman THRU the dragon. Thankfully, the change you saw in FPS is moot. I've run back to back to back tests w/o changing anything and gotten results differing by 30 points in either direction. Ah, technology...gotta luv it!

I want to update my bios. I also have a geforce 2 gts creative 32mb. Which file do i download and where are the instructions? thanks

Uuummmmmmmmm......please see the very first post in this thread. The debate isn't about where to get the bios, but whether or not it's worth it. OK, now you know where to get it...please flash and let us know how you did. 😉

of course I know its the Hindu god of destruction..I am Hindu 🙂

See I'm not a big fan of bundles. Most of the games I buy are multiplayer. The replayability factor is huge for me. I'll usually just "borrow" a game *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge* if its single player only...play through it, beat it, and delete it.

I can't justify paying $345 for a bundle with games that either don't have multiplayer or the multiplayer they have sucks.

I'm definitely gonna try flashing my BIOS when I find time though. I also have the Creative GF2 GTS (why can't they make a $299 geforce3 too??).

Flashing vid cards is not as risky as mobos. Make sure you back up the old BIOS first, then flash on! if the flash hoses your still OK. Dig out that old PCI vid card and set BIOS to boot to PCI video, then reapply your back up AGP card BIOS and your saved!

Thanks NFS4 for the link.

And lil..., no you're NOT the only person who paid UNDER $200 for you GeForce 2 GTS.
I paid $177 for mine, a 32MB (no tv out), but it was JUST two months ago.

BTW, did I miss when I was reading these threads how one goes about flashing a videocard's
BIOS. Is it similar to flashing the mobo's BIOS?

I flashed the new bios on my 32 meg gts and got a 80-100 point increase. It may be because this bios has sidebanding enabled. I'm happy🙂

Doomguy,

That's good news! I'm glad it went well for you. Did you notice any increase in FPS in either UT or Q3A? Most of that would be CPU dependent, but the vidcard would have a lot to do w/it.

I've never used 3dmarks. How do its marks scale up to something in Q3A for instance?
Is like 5000 marks == 60 fps or something?

I believe I gained a couple fps in q3 at high quality. I should have wrote down all my benchmark scores before flashing. Hope it works out well for you guys.

Shiva,

3D Mark2001 (Get it from HERE) is a GPU-intensive benchmarking program that puts a vidcard under stress, testing it's limits. It has it's own scoring system, that doesn't really translate (i.e. score of 5,000=60FPS) as benchmarks in any other program.

3DM tests things like bumpmapping, sprite drawing and all those other graphics-related terms. It has become one of the Standard Videocard Benchmarking tests. It's used almost universally by anyone testing a card. Hope this helps. 🙂
