ok so a 13 yr old kid wants to cut my grass. he has his own mower and has been doing it for some of the neighbors.

what if he hurts his dumbass on my property while cutting grass? am i liable? should i get his parents permission or have him sign a release form or something?

I doubt the 13 year old is out to scam you. I cut lawns for years as a kid and never sued anyone because I slipped.

how old are you? this is 2010. i'm sure his parents would be happy to sue on his behalf.

fvck it, i'll just take Gibson's advice and do it myself. fvck

You are liable for injuries on your property, yes. That's what home owner's insurance is for.

you're trying to mow a thirteen y/o kids lawn? is there any grass there at that age? 😛

j/k j/k

anyhow, yes you are probably liable for any injuries that occur on your property while a job is being performed. it would be wise to contact your homeowners insurance to get the details.

I don't know US law, but here in Canada if I hire anyone to work on my property who isn't convered by Workers Compensation Insurance then I am liable if they hurt themselves. We always hire reputable contractors and I check (online) to make sure that their account with WCB is in good standing. This would apply to a worker of any age.

Unfortunately, that's about the way it is here in Kahleeforneeya as well.

Hire the kid or don't...but legally, you CAN be liable if he hurts himself while mowing your lawn.

(yet another example of why I hate lawyers)
