Leadtek 2000XP Deluxe

I cannot get this thing to update at all. Every time I load up windows it detects two Multimedia controllers and each time I try to install the driver myself it tells me that the directory I am pointing to contains no valid drivers for those devices. The directory I am pointing to contains the drivers on the Leadtek site.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than ripping it out of my computer and tossing it into the street? Yes, I'm getting ticked. 😉

are you sure you have the correct drivers? Leadtek makes a few different flavors of the 2000XP type cards, and I have found that if you don't have the precise model driver, the update won't work.

alternately, you can try telling the update wizard that you'll pick the driver, have disk, and try to force it to accept the downloaded driver, but that's risky if you don't have the exact driver you need.

good luck

Just to be clear, you are actually extracting the file you download from their site, right? (You can't point the driver install wizard to zip or exe file, it's looking for an inf).

You also must point it to the specific folder with the proper inf, not just the root folder, if the download in question has multiple.

Leadtek's drivers, at least for the 2000XP DeLuxe, are messy.

When upgrading drivers, Leadtek suggests removing the old drivers and installing the new ones from scratch. As I recall, Leadtek provides a "remove" utility to help. Last time I tried it, when Windows XP rebooted, XP decided that I had a "new" PC and demanded re-activation within 3 days. The removal utility wiped out enough devices on my PC to exceed Microsoft's limit of changed devices.

Unfortunately there is a problem with the drivers where if you use certain programs (like Dscaler) it can sometimes lose its ID so that it drivers don't "take" to the hardware. There is a little program that was released by Leadtek tech support that you run from a bootdisk that resets the ID on the tuner and allows for the drivers to re-install. However, occassionally the ID resets itself and I have to do it again.

You can find more info on a tv tuner forum. I'm not sure exactly where I found it but it was a community devoted to tv tuners. If you are still having trouble, PM me and I can email you the file.
