I recently returned from an AFROTC related event after having been in command of 10 other individuals. While managing the squadron I encounted vast amounts of flak from members over the most insignificant issues.

I was very hurt by their behavior and actions while I was there. I realize that some things can't be helped. However, as a friend summed it up to me, everyone had their own agenda and that was the major problem.

THUS I have come to the following: In order to be an effective leader, one needs to emphasis to his/her followers that in order for team success, they themselves must be willing to follow and regulate themselves for "we" instead of "I."

If you were in charge, add the words "and that's an order" after everything you say and you should be ok. ;)

Making each person feel that what they are doing is very important. Praise goes a long way to help with that.

Leadership is quit possibly the hardest thing one can develop. The following from our friends, the Marines. Leaders are followed because they lead, not because the followers follow.
