I've been using a 2405 for a week now. Its great, no problems other than you kinda need to adjust gamma or other color settings, as it has a slight washed out look that is kinda bothersome (but I've been able to fix it either through my video card control panel or in games themselves). After that it looks spectacular.
The Dell has 5 inputs (DVI/VGA/Component/S-Video/Composite), better specs and better response time than the other monitors in the same size bracket. Its also easy to get for under $1000.
Samsung has a 24", but it has a pretty high response time so ghosing would likely be an issue on it. Also, I don't know if it has inputs other than DVI/VGA, and its about $1500.
HP has 2 23", they use the same panel just have different aesthetics. It has all the inputs the Dell has I believe, but its an inch smaller, and is more expensive. Don't know too much about its panel, so can't really comment on any issues with it.
Sony has a 23" that I believe uses the same panel as HP's does. Its also about $1500 usually, IIRC.
Apple has their 23" Cinema Display which doesn't seem a great fit for PCs. Some people are unable to see the BIOS screen on them. Also, it only has a DVI input. The office thats adjacent to ours (and in the same department as ours) just got one, and I was kinda unimpressed. It has very little adjustability, and the image wasn't that great (I think the Dell is better). Its fairly expensive as well.
