I'm sorry in case i prove to be the ultimate noob... but i need help with something:
I have a computer and a TV hooked together. I don't have a CRT monitor because i don't have the room for it : the computer is used primarily for games and DVD movies. There are times that i do some extensive work with photoshop as well for fun (image/photo editing) since i am into photography as well...
Lately i begun thinking that maybe i could have room for an LCD-TFT panel. After some research i understood how and why they are worse than CRT's for Photo-work.
My Question is: How does an LCD screen compare to my TV-out? Of course i know that LCD's are better but are they better in terms of contrast and color as well? If the image that i get from an LCD is not worse (in photo-ealism) than the image i get on my TV screen, then i should go get one...
BUT IS IT????

any screen made for computer use will be better than tv-out ,which is HORRIBLE. the image is not worse with an lcd, however, the contrast and brightness may be off. this is also true with crts, but at least crts produce the same image over a wide angle of viewing.

i think you should stop using tv out as your primary display. it's horrible.

the problem is, what is your budget, and omfg, you dont have room for a monitor????
 
Of course i know that LCD's are 'IN GENERAL' a looot better than TV's. What i was really asking is if they have AT LEAST the same color and contrast range as TV's have. I mean, i know how they (tft) can't compete against crt's in that respect so i just wondered if normal TV's exceed in that as well... I also wondered if there would be any errors when zooming in a photo, since lcd's have the 'scaling' problems...
Reading your reply, i understand that LCD's are better in every respect than TV's, right? I hope you understand the aspects (color/contrast range) that trouble me.
Thank you for your help, please if you have anything more to say i would really appreciate it...
Also, would i have to get an expensive tft screen to be able to work with photoshop getting better results than from tv's? Or even a cheap/descent one ($350) would do???
(remember, i'm not looking for the absolute best... i'm looking for something somewhat better than the photo results i get now)
 
um, you're not understanding me, let me start over.

lcd -> contrast\brightness bad
tv out -> looks horrible.

dont confuse tv with tv-out. a tv is a television set. tv-out is having your computer display be displayed on a tv. viewing anything with tv-out is horrible. not only is your resolution limited, but the image quality with tv-out is just bad. you lose sharpness and definition of images.

if i were you, i would just spend a few hundred on a large crt, and buy a tv tuner card or something. of course i also have room for a tv and monitor in my room.
 
Right. Your best bet is: Throw the TV out, buy a proper LCD or CRT monitor for your computer, and put a TV card into the latter. (Alternatively, there are LCD monitors that contain a TV tuner, but with those you can't use your computer as a digital video recorder. With a TV card in there, you can.)

please listen to this. tv out looks worse than the quality of a first generation gameboy compared to how it COULD look. i cant believe you can do anything on TV out besides play emulators or look at your screen saver. in order to survive judgement day, im afraid you might have to upgrade to a high def CRT (at least!)
