LCD vs SXRD

I own the first gen SXRD sets from sony and my parents recently got a samsung lcd tv. Mine was basically calibrated using a calibration dvd while the lcd was calibrated by me using settings from various owners on avsforum. There were several different settings so I picked the settings that looked the best to me.

Since I couldn't test them side by side and to be as fair as possible I played back sources that I have repeatedly watched on my set so I'll have a good memory on how looks. Materials I tried included Planet Earth, Rataouille and A Bug's Life, and a couple of high bit rate HD clips that the manufacturers use to showcase their sets.

Even after going through numerous settings for the lcd, I just couldn't get it look as good as my SXRD. Not that the PQ of the LCD wasn't great or anything but I just couldn't get it to my satisfaction. I'm sure if I could put both sets side by side and playing the same materials simultaneously most viewers would probably say my set looks better.

Some of the new LED screens are probably going to get closer. But, yeah, SXRDs trash anything but the _very best_ plasmas and LCDs. Man, I love my KDS-55A3000.

The bulb on it burned out, and we had to watch some stuff on a 2005FPW for a while until a new one came in. My wife immediately commented on how much better it looked on the A3000.

I have the last generation SXRD and I must agree that it has the best picture quality of any form of TV that I have seen. I was surprised to read that Sony has stopped manufacturing them. I recently started watching BR on it and was blown away. By the way, if you like nature shows get the Planet Earth series in BR. Absolutely spectacular.

Yeah, IMO SXRD has the highest quality picture of any television technology (though Sony experienced some serious problems with the early sets). Actually I also generally prefer DLP to LCD or plasma - I find that SXRD and DLP offer a more film-like image, free from any screen door effect or harsh edge sharpness.

3 Chip DLP would be my technology of choice Wonder when it will hit the same price point of 3 LCD
