I wouldn't buy either, to much money for to few pixels. If your going to spend $1000 just buy a high def CRT which can actually do 1920 x 1080.

Which home theater CRT display can actually resolve 1920 x 1080?

Haha. :) Actually, I'm a huge front projection LCOS/DILA fanboy. But, for flat panel displays, I think plasmas hold the lead in terms of visual quality. Plasmas and LCD's each have their own advantages and disadvantages, but there's way more misinformation floating around about plasmas than anything else.

I'm one of the people who see the rainbow effect on DLP sets, so I can't keep that as an option. at least for now. They are working on a way to get rid of it, but it won't be available for several years. Our main TV, A Mitsubish 27" just hit it's 23'rd birthday. It's getting a little green, but still has a great pic. It's never had a problem, but it's going to die one of these days..

My second oldest TV is another Mitsubishi, and it's about to turn 22. It's about ready to go. If Mitsu still made regular tube TVs, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

There was a 37 or 42 inch Panasonic LCD at CCity that looked amazing, blew just about everything in the store away. I almost bit when it was being closed out, but I read that they quit making it due to a lot of having pic problems out of the box, so I passed on it. But I'm probably going to get an LCD I can hang on the wall.

Plasma is the way to go imo with what we currently have with LCD and Plasma screens and what sources.

Look at both and see what you prefere. You may not like the look of LCD or Plasma...

ribbon12 I just chcked it out. The price isn't 'that' bad but the prices of the OP are a lot different to this model I think. At least $2k different compared to the Panny 42" Plasma but your Samsung screen is 4" bigger and runs a lot higher res :)

Personally, I'm waiting for the reviews on this bad boy to roll in. Seems to me you see a lot more value manufacturers in the LCD market than plasma.

12ms 46" 1920x1080 native res.

There are plenty that compete with it.

Those samsung 46" specs, in order of important specs for visual quality in home theater use to least important:

Contrast: 800:1
Brightness: 500 cd/m2
Response time: 12ms
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Viewing Angles: 170 / 170

like the LG 50"

LG RU-50PZ61

LG 50" Specs:

Contrast: 5000:1
Brightness: 1000 cd/m2
Response time: equivalent to 1-2 ms
Resolution: 1366 x 768
Viewing angles: 170 / 170

1080p resolution is what I was going for. Plasma with 1920x1080 or 1920x1200?

Ah, ok, second to least important spec. :) The plasmas that do that will be all over 60", the first of which are the samsung and the LG ones.

Seems like a good deal too me...perhaps too good to be true...

Though how nice of a projector could I buy for $2K?
