LCD vs. CRT

I am blessed with 20/10 eyesight. Have worked with 17" monitor for some time with no problems. New job for 6 weeks, and now dock a Dell D505 laptop to CRT. If I use the laptop screen at all, my eyesight gets fuzzy if I look away. I seem to be backwards from the norm. Anybody else got this problem?

Man, sorry to hear that! I'm just the opposite!

Can you have your work replace it or bring in your own CRT? The visible refresh rate on CRTs just kills my eyes and my eyes start to shake or jitter when I am done looking at the monitor and begin walking around.

Hi pbeguy and Welcome to the Forums!

I get the "fuzzies" when I look away, no matter if it's a CRT or my lappie screen. Lappie is worse, though, I think because I tend to sit closer to it's screen.

In my case, I thinks it's the eye muscles. If I look away and focus on something like 20' away every once in a while it helps.

The fuzziness you describes happens to me only when I use a poor quality LCD that's dim and has a bad case of the screendoor effect.

Make sure your resolution is set to native resolution (and refresh rate) of the laptop screen. Assuming you're using XP, make sure that Cleartype is enabled.

try adjusting the color tint to flourescent, daylight, or that blueish color. depending on your working enviornment...should help

Interesting...I find TFTs much more relaxing... have two at work I'm staring on all the time and also one at home staring at the other time 😉...oh, wait...the TV is still CRT... 😀

i just know I cannot stand a 60Hz refresh rate on CRT.
even 75 Hz isn't comfortable.. 85Hz and above seems alright.
I know 100Hz is definately awesome..

haven't had any problems with my LCD so far using DVI fixed at 60Hz

ya same here...

How often do you use the LCD screen? I had to get used to my LCD at first, and I was kinda worried I wasn't going to be able to use my LCD for extended periods of time. However, now that I have adjusted to LCD, almost all CRT's look blurry or fuzzy to me.

I can look ar CRTs for hours without any problems, unless the refresh rate is under 80Hz then I can't stand to look at the moniter for more then a few minutes. LCDs are ok but I get more of a headache from them then I do from CRTs, we have some apple LCDs in my web design class and after 2 hours of class I almost always have a headache.
