Does anyone here have one of these and would like to share your experience with this model? I am thinking about getting this one but concerned about its performance from a gaming perspective--ghosting effect especially. I do alot of RTCW with an AMD 1600+ and GF3 Ti200, so high frame rates are a concern for me on LCD's.

My wife has the 151b model. It looks gorgeous, but the "blurry effect' occurs while scrolling through text. So I imagine it would do the same in fast moving games.

Well, I don't own a VG191, but the specifications indicate it has a 25ms response time. I think all the latest LCD technologies (asi-tft, mva), have 25ms response times. I'm looking to replace a Samsung 170t I had with a larger LCD, either the VG191, or the Samsung 181t. The Samsung uses a asi-tft screen, and supposedly has a 25ms response time, and the only time I ever noticed ghosting on the 170t was when I scrolled a webpage or text extremely fast, so fast I couldnt read it anyways. I never noticed any ghosting in games, or any other programs, but some people claim they can with the 25ms displays, so YMMV. The VG151 specifications Rogue1979 refers to only has a 40ms response time, so that would explain the noticeable ghosting issue with that particular model. Ive been doing a lot of research lately, but unfortunately I don't have anywhere locally to view either monitor, so I have just manufacturer specifications and user/online reviews to go by.

I have a VG191b hooked up to a PNY Vertgo GF3 ti200(DVI connection). All I can say is awesome. Bought it from Mwave for $969. Think it was a good price.

I have a VG191B as well, and I see NO ghosting in MaxPayne, nor 3dmark 2001.Running it off a Visiontek TI500 on the digital and analog ports. I really have no issues with the LCD at all, but it would be nice if Nvidia would turn out a more recent driver that supports dvi, other than the 21.85's.

Thanks for the response guys! This is the type of feedback I was looking for. Provided that a few gamers here have had positive experiences, I am definitely going to buy one now.

Skooch, I have been doing some in depth research myself recently w/lcd's and concur with your findings. MVA seems to be the latest and greatest, but have heard from users here that some of these lcd's are not displaying 'black' pixels dark enough. Is that true on your lcd?

Hawkeyecolt, I also have the PNY Ti200 and am glad you are satisfied. I am having high expectations now with this monitor.

I have a VG 191 but don't game much. Running a matrox 500 and am perfectly happy. The blacks sure look black to me!

Keep in mind lots of gamers end up bitching about LCDs. If you just want to game - you are still better off with a CRT.

roc, i went through this back in December and i have to tell you that you should set your expectations a little lower than you seem to be doing. The only consensus about LCDs and gaming on this forum and all the others i have hit is that there is no consensus. Limiting discussion to 25ms panels for the moment, some people not ghosting and some don't. It is also clear that there is no one panel that escapes this conclusion: the previous statement applies to all panels that are frequently commented on be it Dell, Planar, Viewsonic or NEC.

Not to be all doom and gloom about this, I have to state that i am happy with my 1800+/PNY GF3Ti200 driven planar 174 panel for FPS gaming, currently Urban Terror 2.4 and MOH:AA and enjoy gaming with it but i have to state for the record that there is definite ghosting with high motion. By ghosting it is a sort of visible smearing as pixels revert from light colours or shades of grey to darker colors. This is of course more prevalent where there is high motion like spinning around to defend yourself in the middle of a a frag fest. If you are more of a sneak/stealth player you will rarely notice it. I notice it but still find with my 25ms panel that it is bearable. It was NOT bearable with my GF2go laptop's LCD panel (unknown pixel response time). Additionally none of the current flat display technologies, LCD, plasma, or DLP display blacks as black as a CRT.

I think LCDs are great, absolutely love mine and would be sure you would like that viewsonic......just don't want you to be disappointed!

badga, thanks for sharing your gaming experience. Although I have set a high expectation for this lcd, I do have some reservations and realize the limitations and cons of lcd's. I just wanted to hear what others are experiencing and why or how they come up with their opinions.

As for the high frame rates, others here have tried to 'lower' their frame rates from the 50-60 fps to about 40-50 fps either by setting their resolution to a high resolution when gaming or setting all the game details to 'high'. That way the ghosting will not be as noticable with a lower frame rate. This peformance of course is different for everyone b/c it also depends on what system (cpu & mobo) they are running.

...gonna go order my VG191 now...now where is that 25% discount from dell.com they often run...the current is only 10% =( arrgh ..also, ebates of course will give you 2% on top of that.

yeah, i heard that lowering my frames/sec might help but it didn't seem to do much good. I was getting 60-80 frames in game and lowered it to 40 using console command and didn't see any noticable change. BTW that reminds me of the assertion that a 25ms response time equates to a 40 frames per second rate on a CRT. Only when i forced my fps below that level did i see an obvious degradation of my picture quality. So there is a point where the power of you rig is not going to do much more for your speed but of course make sure you max the eyecandy! yeah order away.....dell usually only goes down 20% on the dell labled panels. Enjoy!

Btw, does anyone here know how to run the demo tests to get your frame rate per second in Wolfenstein?
