LCD users, do you have your monitor shut down after x amount of minutes of not being there?

I do not believe LCDs suffer from burn-in. I just turn mine off, though.

I thought burn in only applies to CRTs and not LCDs? So I dont think you have to worry...

There may appear ghosting of a still image so yes, a screen saver is beneficial (even though it doesn't have any effect on backlight life).

I don't think burn in is an issue, but possibly the backlight operating life may be.

Backlights do have a a limited life span, measured in hours of use. So, definetly turn off your monitor when you aren't there.

You can still get a burn-in-like effect with some LCDs, but it's not permanent as with CRTs. I once closed my laptop screen hoping for it to power down into standby. Didn't happen due to some glitchy software I recently installed that messed things up. I didn't know it didn't power off, so about 18 hours later I come back and see my screen has suffered burn-in. Freaked out, but eventually the display restored itself within a few hours. I heard some people having to wait days for the full screen restoration though.

apparently there is such a thing as burn in for LCD's, though i've never experienced it. i have mine set to turn off after 10 minutes, to save life on the backlight, and to save pixel life.

 

Burn-in on LCDs is a real phenomenon; I experienced it, but I now have my monitor set to shut off after 5 min.

When I leave the romm or go to sleep I turn the flat panel off and leave the computer on..saves the back light in the LCD...
