I'm in the market for a 26" LCD TV. The cheaper the better but I do understand you get you pay for. TVs that have caught my eye are the Sharp Aquos and the Sony BRAVIA. Any models from Samsung or Toshiba I should be looking at?

Keeping it under $2k after tax would be best. 1080i/p is a big plus in my book since PS3 will probably look better with it. Higher picture quality is of course best. Sound wont matter as I will splurge for something good. :D

Those are all too big. An extra 10+ inches is too much for me. :p Let alone those 82" beasts.

26" is the max. Some 27s will fit where I'll have the TV placed but there are more 26 inchers to choose from.

Edit - Just spec'ed the Westinghouse 26". While cheap, it's resolution is only 1280 x 720.

On a TV that small, can you really tell the difference between 720p and 1080p? It seems like it wouldn't make much difference until you start getting into the larger sets. I'm wondering if you wouldn't be better off getting a 720p at that size now, then when you're in a position to have a larger set in a few years, get a big 1080p (or whatever the standard is at the time) then.

um 1280x720 on a LCD TV sounds like the standard resolution, what resolution are you expecting?

I think he wants 1080 on a 26" TV.
I don't think it's gonna happen.

Its not, you don't start seeing 1080i/p LCDs till you get to the 30" range.

Good. Buy it. You'll be able to feed it a standard 720p signal and not get any BS scaling like all the other 1366x768xRetarded Resolution sets.

Sharp AQUOS has 1366 x 766 but no 1080.
Sony BRAVIA has 1366 x 768 with 1080i.

Shoot, LG has a 23" LCD that has 1080i.

Or am I missing something?

If its 1366x768, then its not displaying 1080i (1920x1080), its downscaling it to 1366x768 garbage. I'd take a 1280x720 display over that kooky resolution, just so that it didn't have to scale.........everything.

EDIT: As a sidenote, that Samsung I linked to might be the closest you'll find to a sub 30" LCD that natively displays 1080i content

Read the OP. Thanks.

what a smarmy response. you don't deserve any help after that.

I shouldnt have helped once I figured out he hadn't done some basic research on LCD TV's and their resolutions.

Nothing but rave reviews I've seen for the Viewsonic HDTV/monitor over at the egg for $795 - 27".
