LCD screen: Should I buy now or wait for next gen?

I'm interested in buying a new LCD screen for college next year, but after doing some research online, it seems that I should wait for the next generation of LCD monitors to come out before I buy one. But, then again, LCD monitors now are good enough (<25ms response time) that I think I could buy now too. Should I buy now or wait for the next gen? BTW, I'm a gamer, so response time and contrast ratio is very important to me, and I'm looking for a 17" LCD monitor. Help!
 
Shouldn't be a problem buying now. I've found that response time isn't everything. I have a KDS Rad-9 and even though it's response time is 35ms total, games are very playable. I don't know what the response time on the Rad-7 is though.
 
I'll be waiting for the 1400x1050 breed ... they're already here in notebooks, now let's see when the desktop units appear. I stand DVI output prepared and ready 🙂
 
Well i think that it kinda depends on you. I see ghosting in every lcd i have ever seen but i have overly sensitive eyes and i can even see ghosting on some crts. Lcds are very expensive. I can put together a pretty decent computer for the price of a good lcd. If you have the money and cant see ghosting then go for it. Your eyes will thank you and if you can see ghosting now then why wait for the next generation unless you wanna save some money.
 
LCD monitors save space. That is all they are good at. A cheap Viewsonic or CTX monitor will give far better color, and I constantly have to squint at LCDs. On top of that, they all have that shimmering rippling look so it looks almost like a monitor at 60Hz...but not quite.
 
The next gen is always around the corner. In LCDs it usually comes out in the most expensive and largest screens first before making its way down the food chain. I've had a 19" LCD for 9 months now and have never had a single momentary regret. I would go so far as to say it was the best hardware upgrade I ever made (and I've made a lot of them).

LCDs do more than save space. Mine is an eyesaver, powers up instantly, has a great stable picture, and lots of real estate. There is no going back.
