LCD Refresh rates

What refresh rate should i run my hitachi cml 174 at? It can run at 60,70, and 75hz and right now i'm at 60hz. Will games run smoother if i turn it up?

No, you're more limited by pixel response time.

I have never, even with my own seperate post, gotten anyone here to explain exactly what affect changing the refresh rate has on an LCD.

Nebor: It really doesnt change anything. Its more for signal processing.

On my particular LCD, a Viewsonic VE150, I have to set the refresh rate at the maximum for the monitor (75hz) or else the text is fuzzy.

Your monitor has a signal processor built in. These take the signal and decode it to a signal usable by your TFT. Obviously, the higher the refresh rate, the more data your video card pushes over to the monitor. The problem is that some signal processors are not capable of high rates, like 75Hz, so they essentially just drop data. Turning this number up or down is not optimal, you want to find the actual compatible number and use that.

Check the documentation of the monitor to see what your manufacturer suggests. I usually just leave LCDs at 60Hz, because I can find no difference in raising the refresh rate on them. However, if you use VSync, it might make for higher framerates in games...

It really makes no difference because LCDs don't refresh. They are staring pixels, on or off. I keep mine set at the default of 60 - but that really makes no difference.
