LCD problem on Dell Inspiron 9200

All of a sudden I'm seeing this teal/blue vertical stripe on my 17" LCD. It stays there on top of all my windows and even on the BIOS screen when I reboot. I've seen the line disappear at certain times when starting Linux, and I still see my mouse cursor, but then it comes back.

Has anyone seen this before? Is my LCD going bad? Can you change out LCDs or will it even be worth it?

You could always open it up and make sure the ribbon cable is secure?

Had a similar problem with my Dell 8500 .... I was getting a pink/purple line.... and Don66 is correct.

The display cable (the one going into the GPU) was loose. I removed it. Cleaned it, replaced it. Problem solved.

dammit you guys, now I'm morally obligated to try this before buying a new one. Of course I could develop a case of "shaky hand syndrome" and accidentally tear the cable. But that would be wrong...very very wrong.

:D You can always blame it on the dog, or say when all fails, "The Devil made me do it!"

If your significant other falls for it, you're set. But, the honest approach is the best way.

Wait for the 40% off deals or the $750 coupons and may I suggest the Dell E1505, the keyboard and LCD's sizes are very easy on us seniors, or soon to be.

My attitude is a bit sour towards Dell now. I just can't justify spending another grand and a half on a machine that's gonna break down in a year. I took apart the LCD plug and it didn't seem to fix the problem. I think I'm going to give this to my wife to use to replace her desktop. Of course it'll be hooked up to an external monitor.
Meanwhile I'm about 99% sure I'm going to get a MacBookPro 2Ghz. It seems to have the best features for the money.
