LCD panels.

It is driving me crazy hehe. How do you guys know what LCD panel is what? Everyone is talking about the monitors having a TN panel or SIS or something or another. Yet everytime I go to newegg and click on a monitor's spec., it just says the panel is Active Matrix, TFT LCD.

HELP!

<=170 degrees would be a TN.
176/178 would be PVA/MVA/IPS.

To determine if it's PVA, MVA, or IPS generally you just take a look at the manufacturer and line. HP's pro series tend to be S-IPS, Dell tends to use S-IPS a lot (and S-PVA in 24"), Gateway is all S-PVA, Acer is basically all TN and P-MVA, BenQ is all TN and P-MVA. NEC uses all types, mostly S-IPS in their most expensive ones.

If it's a cheap LCD you can bet it's either TN or P-MVA due to the low price.

Yup, unless you own the LCD in question in which case you can determine the panel type based off characteristics.

Or check out the hardocp forums. they have a vast monitor forum over there and *most* monitors have their own official thread. Most of the time, they will have figured out what type of panel it is.
