ok, so I've a got an HP laptop (Quanta OEM) with a 15" XGA (1024x768) screen.
i haven't dissasembled the thing yet, but i'm fairly certain it has an AUO brand LCD panel.

what i want to know is what are the possibilities that i can replace it with an SXGA (1400x1050) panel from another brand...say an LG or something.

i'm sure i'd need to make sure i got the inverter board with the LCD panel...but beyond that, are the connections to the laptop motherboard generally standardized? (this is what i do not know)

Edit: i feel i should go ahead and let it be known that i've replaced a broken panel in both a snow iBook and a powerbook G4 successfully in the past...the little parts dont' get me too antsy :), so don't use that as an excuse for me not to try

I am given to believe, though I cannot be absolutely certain, that laptop LCDs are pretty proprietary indeed. You are unlikely to have success with such a swap, I think.

This is a high Res screen and there are 3 others I believe that will cross to this specific model. Should be an LTN150XB-L01 Samsung for one, (A phillips LP150X02 (A2) will not work). Do you have the part number and the ammount of pins for the cable socket on the LCD side? I can check others...

that's awesome ken.

i'll take a look whenever i tear down the thing to upgrade the celeron M to a pentium M (i wants me battery life!)

you'll get a PM with a pin count once that happens

upgraded the processor today, took a look at the LCD plug.

it's got 40 pins, 2 rows of 20, very tightly grouped.

common? interchangeable between brands?

Measure the width on the LCD socket and the ammt of pins there. You can run a low res screen but you have to change the cable as well. (Theyre alot cheaper).

Thats the socket/flat connector one on the back of the screen and I misread your initial post.. You dont have a high res. so there are quite a few screens that will work.. If you want to find the high res I can send the correct cable for one if we have it.. The samsung LTN150XB-L03 will run on it with a different video cable and a LG phillips should be a standard cross to your PN: LP150X2 (A2)..
