'LCD Overdrive'

After much googling and browsing some familiar forums, I still cannot find any information on what 'LCD Overdrive' is under 'Digital Panel Properties' in the ATI CCC. The CCC itself doesn't give any information on it either. I have a 2900XT and an Acer AL2416W LCD monitor, at first I thought it was some sort of refresh rate 'overdrive' to which it would force a Higher refresh rate than supported, but the slider under the LCD Overdrive option gives no indication of it having anything to do with the monitors refresh rate. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I have the exact same question! I have not been able to find out anything via searchs on the net. Any Assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Typically when it comes to LCDs, overdrive is used to describe the technology where pixels are over/undervolted so they can more quickly reach the desired color. Most monitors these days have this feature since when it's done correctly (overdrive until you're almost at the color then back off to normal) it's a big improvement in response times.

However this is always done by a controller on the monitor, not the video card. What ATI is offering sounds like they're trying to do overdrive at the video card level, by specifying incorrect colors in order to cause a panel to effectively overdrive. This strikes me as a really bad idea.

Thanks for the info ViRGE, so by moving the slider to the right, one would over-volt pixels in order to achieve a faster response time? Although this would be good, it seems this method would run my monitor outside it's supported specs which might cause problems that I am not willing to risk 😛
