LCD montitors 1:1 pixel match

What are some LCD monitors that scale the pixels 1:1 when you select a lower resolution?

It's hard to tell which monitors have this option, so what is the description for this feature?

I know my BenQ FP241VW can do it in hardware. It can also be done through video drivers though.

Some monitors support 1:1 pixel mapping in hardware and this feature will work across multiple video sources. Monitors that do not support this feature in hardware must rely on video card drivers to achive the same effect and only work over DVI.

Some monitors that support this are:

Dell 2007WFP
Dell 2407WFP
Gateway FPD2485W
BenQ 24"

There are a bunch more, but those are the ones I have used or confirmed this feature on.

I have found this to be an invaluable feature on monitors and would not give it up.

Most newer Samsung monitors will do this regardless of size if attached by DVI. The mentioned 24" ones can do it even for VGA source, which is even better.

Since I have two Samsungs with 1:1 support, 930B and 204B, then probably all similar series (940B, 940BW, 205BW, 206BW, 226BW S, etc.) support 1:1 as well.

I know my HP f2105 has the option to do it. I think most newer LCDs these days should do it.

If your local Best Buy has one on display, then it is real easy to figure out. Most of the store displays are using VGA breakout boxes to supply a 1024x768 feed. Just play around in the menu till you find the right setting, though I don't remember where in the menu Samsung places it.

I can confirm my Dell 2407fwp does that.

It was one of my purchasing criterias... must have it... I have non-native resolutions on LCDs, yuck.

Please don't buy that, it is sub-par compared to most other 24" LCDs. It is a TN monitor, and on that size, bad viewing angles will be very noticeable... along with other TN shortcomings.

I've bought a 226BW thinking it had that feature but can't find it
Does someone know if it has it? If so, how to activate it?

I've an ATI X1800XT, so I can't use the driver solution :|

If you're willing to buy the craptastic 245BW (I have seen it in person compared to a bunch of other 24" monitors side-by-side and it indeed sux0rs) for $560, you can get the Dell 2407WFP-HC for $570 + tax + shipping right now on their web site. Better colors than most 24" monitors and has a card reader and 1:1 pixel mapping.

My Dell has the feature as other ones does too but one thing you have to figure out is how to get the drivers to allow you to access it.

For example: right now i can not go into the monitor OSD and change the pixel ratio. It is set in drivers to all drivers to take care of it... Well the problem with this is i have no idea how to let the monitor control these ratios with ATI drivers? Anyone know? My 7800GT i would just goto the display properties and set scaling to monitor chosen and it allow my monitor;s hardware to do it. No idea where this is in ATI's driver.

But ATI drivers has a aspect ratio option it is under the "Image scaling" The option to use "Centered Timing" keeps the aspect ratio so no stretching occurs.. but can not find a 1:1 option.


So where is the option to use monitor setting in ATI panel?

I've returned the 226bw. I can't live without pixel mapping and aspect ratio scaling

I know, I know, the nVidia cards can do that on any monitor. But I won't/can't spend the money on the monitor and on a new card.

And then other little things started to annoy me in this monitor.

- The 60 fps limit if I activate VSync. I'm used to a 100Hz/100fps experience (at 1600:1200 I'm able to go to 75Hz/75fps with VSync). I could deactivate VSync but I don't like image tearing and what's the point of having a card that can give me 100+ fps on most games if I can't use it?

- Less true colors than a CRT. Maybe it's all in my mind but I think I really notice the dithering and banding.

On the end I started thinking that I was making a downgrade instead of a upgrade. I hope LCDs advance and become really better than CRTs because I really like the 16:10 view area (as long as it can give me a 4:3 image as well). Now they're just as good or even not as good in some areas.

When we have 100Hz LCDs with 8bit color, then I'll make the jump. I only hope my fateful CRT lasts that long

I think the nVidia cards can only do the 1:1/scaling thing on monitors that use DVI. I've tried it on a ViewSonic Q22wb (VGA input only) and it didn't work.

Yeah, Nvidia's scaling options only work over DVI.

If your monitor can do it without any help from the video card, it's pretty much a moot point, though.
