LCD montiors that work with SLI

I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in motherboards but I picked here. Anybody out there running and SLI gaming system on an LCD monitor? I have read some other posts that say sli is problematic with some LCD monitors and I want to find out which ones are good and which ones to avoid. My video cards (BFG 6600 GT OC on Asus A8N SLI Dlx.) have DVI outputs only so I am currently using a DVI to analog adapter plug to run my CRT monitor but it gets wavy and wobbly at higher resolutions above 11x8@75Hz and I think it may be because of the adapter plug. This monitor (ViewSonic A90F+) doesn't exhibit this problem on my old AGP system. So I'd like to switch to a monitor that has native DVI input for my SLI system and use my current monitor on my old machine. As my understanding goes, there are not any CRT monitors that have DVI input. Is this assumption correct? Plus I need to save some space on my desk. I'd like to find a good quality LCD monitor that will run at 1280x1024 that is good for gaming. I have about $500-$600 I can spend on it. Whether or not I get an LCD monitor, I still need a second monitor anyway so I can run both my machines.

[EDIT] Please let me clarify my request a little bit. I am interested in knowing what monitors work well with SLI systems for people who are ACTUALLY USING 2 VIDEO CARDS IN SLI MODE! Please post your monitor make and model if it works well or if you had problems with any specific monitors also.

Well, I'd like to get as big as I can for the money I have. What do you consider huge? And doesn't anybody out there actually have an LCD with an SLI system? Anybody got any recommendations?

i just got a 2005fpw a few days ago but i'm having problems getting it to recieve a picture from the video card. I've tried it on all four DVI ports but I get nothing. I might try the VGA cable and an adaptor to see if that works or not. I'll update you when I get things sorted out.

Thanks elfear, seems like maybe my fears are well founded. Seems a bit rediculous though that BFG would make video cards with a big nVidia SLI Ready stamp on the box and only put DVI outputs on them if DVI doesn't even work with LCD monitors.

figfiddle- Are you using just one 6600GT right now or two? Just wondering if the problem is with two cards in SLI or something else?

i dont believe it is necessarily the lcd itself as much as it is the dvi interface. i have a 2005fpw and when using dvi i have some major problems but in analog it was fixed. in dvi, certain resolutions create a "shaky screen". the picture jumps up and down around 30-40 pixel lines - it is very noticeable. in doom3, ut2004 i get it when i set res to native 1680x1050 but at 1280x1024 everything is fine. i hope new drivers will fix this problem. ut2004 runs fine at 1600x1200 when using umark but i dont have that as an available resolution while in the actual game. does anyone know how to create custom resolutions in ut2004?

I'm running dual 2405s and dual BFG 6800 Ultra OCs and I don't have any problems using SLI. Not sure why you're having difficulties... :(

I do. No problems here.

Cool. So what kind of LCD monitor do you have? And are you actually *using* SLI? Or you just have an SLI system but it only has 1 video card? I assume you use it for gaming since SLI is primarily a feature aimed at gaming systems. Are you happy with your monitor's performance?

Running dual video cards and dual monitors does note equate to SLI. Any pc can have 2 video cards. But do you have an SLI capable system? If so, I am pretty sure that the SLI spec specifically states that only 1 monitor will work whenever you have SLI enabled. You could have 2 monitors (or more) hooked up, but only 1 will function when you enable the SLI feature. To switch back to multi monitor use, you have to turn off SLI. So do you really have an SLI system? What is your setup? Can you qualify the statement "I'm running dual 2405s and dual BFG 6800 Ultra OCs and I don't have any problems using SLI" a little bit? Do you mean that when you enable your SLI your primary monitor doesn't have any problem and you disable your SLI to use dual monitors? Thanks!

[edit] Oh, and what is a 2405? I assume some model of LCD monitor but who makes it?

what in the world do you do that requires 3800x1400 pixels. those monitors are huge. i have a 2005fpw, do you have any pics of your system? i would love to see what two 2405's look like next to each other.

All the monitor does is read the incoming video signal and display it. It's a problem with the video card output or the DVI->VGA adapter. By the way, BenQ just came out with some 5ms. displays. That's theoretically 200 FPS possible in the best situation, and maybe half or less of that on average (maybe 80 FPS). Wait for them to hit stores and you'll be glad you didn't buy an LCD just at this second. They might be $600 at the maximum.

So, does that mean you can run dual cards with dual monitors and have sli turned off?

2001fp dvi using dual 6800gt. works fine in every game ive tried. wow, coh, doom3, hl2, farcry.

Only time i have some corruption is when i alt tab from a full screen game into another app, the screen splits top and bottom and I get all kinds of weird scanlines. goes away once i alt tab back into the app. Only happens occasinaly, not all the time.

Yes, AFAIK you can run multiple monitors simultaneously by disabling SLI which is very easy to do in the system display properties applet and then rebooting.

Bastard! :| Seriously, those 2405s are really sh!tty monitors. What you REALLY need is one sweet ass 1997 Hitachi 17" CRT capable of displaying an AMAZING 1280x1024 resolution @ 75Hz. And we're talking 32 bit color here too. Since you sound like a nice guy, I'll take those crappy 2405s off your hands and ship you a SWEET 17" CRT. I'll even pay for the shipping. :)

SO, that means you could use any pci-express cards on a sli motherboard? YOu could have to x850xt's each runing a motior?

I believe that DFI might have come up with something that would allow you to do this, however in most SLI boards I don't think it'd work. Not 100% certain about this, and they (as you would guess) would not help each other in games, only one would run the game.
