LCD monitors?

I hear they reduce eye strain and are not very expensive lately.
Where do you get these for cheap?
Dell.com?
Sams?
Costco?
WalMart?
Are all the cheap ones the same?
I am not playing video games, so I suppose I don't need a super fast refresh to prevent ghosting, right?

They do reduce eye strain greatly, at least in my case.

Refresh rate is irrelevant, since anything over 60 Hz on an LCD just causes every Nth frame to be discarded (more info on this in the Video forum).

Newegg tends to have good prices, but it never hurts to compare them at Sam's/Costco/etc. with your own eyes before ordering. You can read lots of different opinions online, but only YOU can decide what really looks good to you.

I have Dell LCDs and Samsung LCDs. I do prefer the Dells. I had 2 1905 Dell LCDs that I sold last year. They were great. I currently use a Dell 2007FPW and love it even tho many reviews mention banding issues. I have yet to see any of that. I also have Samsung 910T and a 940Be. The 940Be is a 6-bit panel I think and the damn thing is too bright even at the lowest setting. I dont know if 8-bit vs 6-bit panels have become equal but I preffer the older 910T over the 940Be. Only your eyes can be the judge, so demo as many as you can. If I didnt pay for electricity I would stick with a wide-screen CRT! 🙂

Neweggs LCD return policy sucks,
"There must be a minimum of 8 dead pixels to declare an LCD display defective and eligible for return."
There's no way I'd buy a monitor from them.

Check the Sunday adds, Hot Deals section, and other deal sites.

Actually it's response time you'd be looking at for games.

If color accuracy is important get an 8-bit monitor, 6-bit uses dithering to make up for a lack of colors. If it's just for office apps I guess it doesn't matter, if you do photo editing get 8-bit.
