lcd monitor

OK I have a Samsung SyncMaster 172x that replaced my older CRT monitor. I still have the windows xp screen saver thingy enabled on my computer. Do I still need it enabled? will it make any difference in life of my LCD as oposed to just leaving the screen saver off. I have heard that LCDs dont have burn in issues like CRTs did so there is no real reason for one anymore.

Screen saver with password protection = best thing for paranoid people. Burn issue hasn't really been an issue even with CRTs in a long time. So my answer would be no, no need to have it enabled.

hehe well if your like me I allways hit the windows + L key wich locks the comp whenever I leave my desk and besides my comp is in my room so no one will want to use it anyways 😉

You better not have screen saver, use shut down option instead of screen saver. LCD don't have burn in issue but the back light of the LCD need rest.

hrm well thats good because I usualy turn the monitor off if I'm not gona be using the comp in a while. Then when I do come back to use I just turn it back on.

Yep, personally I have my lcd set to turn off after 15 minutes idle.

Just a question..
The back light is a type of fluorescent lamp and I've heard that it's not good to turn a florescent light on and off, with that being said wouldn't that also effect the LCD lamp life? If so which of the two would be the worser of the two evils?
I've been researching this question for the last couple of days, any input would be appreciated.
