Monitor:
Looking for good sub $600 monitor
preferably at least 18in
preferably sub $500
dvi sounds like a must ....

Memory:
Getting a shuttle AN35N-Ultra board
with amd athlon xp 2100+
what kind of memory should i get?
1 512mb pc2700? 1 256mn pc3200? other combination?.......

any suggestions, recommendations?

check newegg for LCDs www.newegg.com
but Id recommend CRT

get pc2700, you simply dont need pc3200 if you dont plan to overclock or if you plan to OC just a bit

also newegg has good prices on ram too

Check out the Hot Deals forums for deals on Dell LCDs. The Dells are some of the best out right now and if you find a reasonable deal you can get a 19" in your price range.

As for RAM, do you ever plan on upgrading to a 400MHz FSB processor? If yes, go with PC3200. If no, go with the PC2700 as there wont be a difference otherwise. Either way I would pick 512MB of whatever yo get.

Yes, it does support a 400MHz bus, but it doesnt have to run at 400MHz. The processor will run at 266MHz FSB unless you overclock it. On the nForce boards you can run the memory faster or slower than the FSB, but it will be slower. You might actually see worse results running your memory at 400MHz and FSB at 266MHz than running both at 266MHz. Obviously running both the processor and memory at the fastest synchronous speed is best.

oooook
sooooo if i understand this correctly, i could have bought a 333MHz FSB and gotten the same results?
whats the point of having a MB that CAN run 400MHz FSB if it isn't optimal?

lol. as big as it gets

it is best that your mobo has headroom on everything, for OCing purproses or simply for future upgrades and etc

If your XP2100 is a newer TBred B you may be able to overclock it to run at a 400MHz FSB and then run PC3200. This would take full advantage of the bus. Otherwise, the board is made to handle a XP3200+ which runs at a 400MHz bus. The 3200 requires the bus unless you want to underclock your processor. Like ZL1 said, it is always nice to have headroom, especially when it does not cost much more.
