LCD monitor, help me out!

so i was driving down the street. pretty normal eh?
one thing wasn't normal...i pass a 20icn widescreen dell flatpanel ultrasharp monitor...just sitting....litterally in the gutter.

now it wasnt face down or anything....but gently sitting there.

i think to myself um...my crt 15 inch is a piece of $#!+....

i turn the car around...get out..and i sit next to the monitor for 10 minutes...to see if the owner was around or something i didnt want to steal it...

no one came...examined the screen...the thing is clean...no cracks no weirdness...and luckily no rain LoL sunny california day.

I get home...expecting there to be something wrong with the monitor...and there is.

I plug it in..and it just doesn't turn on.

This is probably a simple power issue...i mean...if the screen was fubar'd the green light would still come on...


so my question is...

anyone know how to fix it? can anyone guesstimate how much fixing it would cost? anyone have this problem? is it bad?

i was driving through a rich newport beach neighborhood...so my thoughts are..

the monitor didnt turn on one day...so they just bought a new one and curb status'd this 400$ monitor 😵

any ideas?

Well, if you're lucky it's just the power supply that is shot, and the panel/backlight itself is actually OK. In this case, repairing it wouldn't be too bad. Of course, it's possible that the power supply AND the panel are bad, but you won't be able to tell what is going on with the panel until you get it functioning. A bad backlight can be fixed as well, but a new panel will probably cost you close to what a 2005FPW would cost to begin with.

You could probably pay Dell to fix it, but I have no idea what kind of rates they charge for non-warranty repairs on LCD monitors. You could call or email their tech support to ask.

Locally, you could also try a TV/VCR/electronics repair shop. They could probably find an adequate replacement power supply and get it patched up. I'd estimate somewhere in the $50-100 range, but they might be willing to give you a free diagnosis/estimate.
 
cool...i think it would just be the power...i doubt the screen is bad. if i can get it up and going for 100$ id be totally happy.

ill email dell about this and see what they say.
 
lol you wouldn't believe the look on my face when i see an awesome flat panel monitor sitting on the sidewalk...not a soul around.
 
do u know anyone with the real monitor? maybe you could get them to "pretend' its theirs and get warranty fixing done 😛
