I have a dell 1900FP (samsung 191T) and my roommate says that you get free anti-aliasing with an LCD monitor. Is this true?

Heh, well in a round about way you do. If you run a game at a resolution other than the native resolution the lcd will automatically scale the image to fit the screen. This makes the image slightly blurry so in a way it is doing "anti-aliasing". It's not really the same thing as what a video card would do but if you like the look of it, use it. I prefer to keep my games at the native resolution because it makes them very clear and sharp.

I wouldnt call it anti-aliasing... but my LCD has a 'smoothing' feature... i have it off... but never did play around with it... my guess is it slightly blurs the image to smooth the edges... :p

It's free blurring, not anti-aliasing. If you can't tell the difference, good for you (but get your eyes checked soon!).
As has been said, it happens in non-native resolution. In native resolution, most LCDs are sharper than CRTs, and much sharper if you happen to have a digital input.

hmm, I can play nearly all games at native res on my 17" LCD. Of course there is no blurring.

I think it's better to keep the games at a native resolution too...it just looks nice and crisp. Ecspecially on a samsung191T :D
