So my dad took my 24" Dell so now I have to get another monitor for myself

I liked the 24" but now Im wondering if theres a better way to go performance wise. Im not gonna get a CRT because good ones are very hard to come by back home (Bombay) but Dell sells their stuff back home so I can get any monitor upto the 24"

Ill be running a 1900XT and was wondering if I should get the smaller 20" wide instead or stick with the 24" Primary purpose is gaming.

CRTs will always look nicer than LCDs IMO, but LCDs are so cheap these days and take up so much less space it's hard to not go with one.

So should I go with a 20" LCD? or buy another 24"?

If I buy a 24" am I better off getting a 1900XTX instead of XT too?

What combo should I go for.

Also am I correct in saying that the 24" Dell is similar in height to the 19" Dell? or is it the 17" Dell? So that if I put em side by side I can align the screens exactly?

The problem with many large LCDs is their native resolutions are so high it takes very powerful hardware to run games at. I'd pick a 19" LCD with a 720p-quality native resolution any day over a larger one with a resolution I can't game at effectively. As most of you know, LCDs do not downscale well from their native resolution.

While it's true that in general LCDs don't downscale well, there are certain resolutions that will look better than others. You have to get it to work for you. I have a 1680x1050 screen, and if I don't want to use that resolution, I can bump it down to something like 1400x1050. Or I can bump it down even more to 1280x1024 or 1280x960. As long as I have the monitor set to Don't Scale Image, these resolutions will look fine. Yeah, there will be some black bars around the edges, but it's no big deal. If you absolutely must scale an image, you'll find that the quality varies from resolution to resolution. My monitor makes 1024x768 look horrible, but does ok with 800x600. My personal preferance is to not scale at all - although considering I'm on a 15.4" laptop screen, the lower resolutions really become too small to use, which shouldn't be a problem on a larger LCD. My suggestion: Go for the LCD, get DVI, and enjoy.

if you choose to scale, get resolutions that match the aspect ratio of your monitor. if the monitor's native res is XGA, 800x600 should look fine. samething with a 1280x1024 rez. just choose a rez that matches the 5:4 ratio and it will look ok.

here is great "lcd buyers guide". This guide helped me buy mine. I think the two maina things you would wanna ask yourself is "What is my budget" and "what would it be primarily used for" .

thanks for the help guys.

The LCD buying guide definately helped

I think Im gonna stick with the 24"

Does anyone know whether the 24" Dell is similar to the 19" or the 17" in height? Meaning if I put em side by side, they screens will line up perfectly and the 24" will just be wider.

there's still a larger work area because of the enhanced width. Again it's not even noticable how much is lost if any from the height.

Im not concerned about the loss in height. Im prolly gonna get 3 monitors and want em to line up perfectly

So the 24" will be in the middle and then ill get either 2 17 or 19 inch dells on the side. I just wanna know which ones will line up

Also that said,,,for the 24" Dell should I go with the 1900xt or 1900xtx. Right now I have the XT in my build.

Also Ill need another gfx card and am wondering which one to get solely for powering one of the other side monitors via DVI.

Anyh suggestions?

Just wonder what monitor you had before?

I own a 2005FPW though sometimes I regret not getting a 2405FPW I think I made the right choice for gaming considering it's already a pretty high resolution plus the Panel is actually better on the 2005FPW compared to the 2405FPW

I wouldn't recommend getting dell's new monitors though 2007WFP, 2407WFP both have banding issues. I know there is other companies that that use the same panel as the Dell 2005FPW. check out reviews I actually saw a Samsung 20'' 1680x1050 6ms I haven't read anything about it but you should look into it there also quiet cheap like $300

edit: after reading into it I'd still go with the S-IPS panel inside the because it's actually better than a samsung panel with 6ms. I know viewsonic, benQ and such have 20.1 monitors.
