LCD Flicker

have an Acer x223w 22" monitor (dual monitor set up with a 19"), x1900 gfx (LKatest official drivers)

resolution set at 1650x1050 @60hz

there is a visable flicker of the screen, particularly on dark backgrounds i mean its not massivly over the top, but there enough to be very annoying.

i cant set the refresh rate any higher than 60, when i try to set it to 75hz with ATI CCC it still flickers. I came accross a program called powerstrip that allows me to force 75hz, and it gets id of the flicker but distorts the text (no longer smooth and nice)

can anyone help me out with how to get rid of the flicker (programs etc) or how i can get powerstrip to not distort the text.

Please no get a new monitor/Acer sucks etc... this is the monitor i have and i have to deal with it.

Acer monitors are pretty nice... I'm not sure forcing the refresh rate above 60hz on a LCD is possible, I thought they topped at 60hz. Sorry I can't help more.

Have you tried different drivers? Does this monitor produce the problem at different resolutions or using different connections? Have you tried this monitor with another card?

Those are the things I would do.

Resolutions: at 1440x900 @ 60hz the screen still flickers, but i am able to change the refresh rate to 75hz and that eliminates the flicker but because of the reduced resolution (rather than optimal, leaves the screen blurryer than i would like.)

Connections: physical? it only has analog VGA, i have tried changing the cable and this has no effect.

Drivers: i have not tried any other drivers apart from the ATI ones, Advice?
Another GFX Card: again i have not tried this, but will go try on my housemates computer and see the results and report back.

he meant, try a different version of the ATI drivers

btw: are you trying this as a single monitor at all?

LCDs don't flicker..... it's your software, or the monitor is defective

Actually, there is a possibility the 'flickering' he is referring to is the dithering of the monitor. In order to achieve certain colors it could be attempting to dither and he's noticing a very slight flickering. Of course, this would likely point to a defective monitor though... as it shouldn't really be noticeable in reality.

its not massivly noticable, its just noticable to be annoying!

i will give running as a single monitor a go

how do you turn on vsync?

i forgot to mention i have it plugged into a VGA switch which i use with my Xbox 360 i unpluged it from this and the flickering got better, but its still there a bit, disabling the 2nd monitor also appeared to make it a little better.

Sorry i rushed to answer. Vsync helps during games to stay at 60 fps to stop tearing. VGA is bad for high resolutions. Im sure that your problem is with your cable and your connection.Try to use a DVi cable. If your monitor doesn't have DVI then try to use a higher quality vga cable.

first thing i thought of when i read the problem was possible result of the lcd doing color dithering as well
