LCD Digital Cables Is there a Difference?

I just recently received my Geforce 4 and it has a Digial cable output for LCD monitors. I have an LCD monitor and went to Frys and bought an LCD digital cable. I noticed that it was missing pins on both sides of the cable right down the middle and it looks intentional.

It failed to produce a picture for me and when I looked at the LCD to analog cable the LCD monitor came with, it had all of the pins.

Is there a difference in these cables because of the missing pins and if so, what is the difference?

Looks like the missing pins in the middle is for single link cables and with all the pins, it is dual link
