Hi,

I recently purchased this monitor 2nd hand, the seller said it was all right, i got to his home and he hooked it up at his pc, I saw the BIOS screen, bright enoug and so, so said him it was ok, then he unmounted the screen and gave it to me.

Now, when I got home, I placed it next to my IIyama e431S, which uses dvi. (asus x800pro, 1dvi and 1 vga output) I turned it 90° and put it at 768*1024, so it extended my 1280*1024 desktop :). All very nice. Then I tried to adjust the screen to view proper colors...

I couldn't. It seems to show only like a couple of thousands of colors.

image of color panel

that image should be nice and smooth, wich it aint.
and here are 2 images of a picture on my IIyama and the ctx, so you can really see the difference, and the cam makes the iiyama look bad, but it's really good quality on him.

is thi smonitor broke? and if so, could I repair it? or an electronics shop? and would it cost much? or is there something else going on...

I already tried to use an other vga-cable, and connected it with my linux laptop, none solved the problem...

anyone?

maybe it's because it;s a 6bit color screen or something? I'm no expert on lcds but many have mentioned the difference between a 6bit color lcd and 8bit color lcd.

Something seems "Wrong"

A 6-bit panel should display colors that are nearly indistinguishable from a 8-bit panel...

Have you tried to use the new monitor as your primary monitor? Or on DVI?

I can't use it on DVI because it's analog input only, and yes, have switched them so it was primary(start button and so), only thing I can try is unhook the dvi and reboot and see what that does...

and it should be able to give me 16.7 mil colours according to CTX

thx for the quick answers btw :)

edit:
just rebooted and detatched the IIyama, only the CTX was attached to my x800, but still the same, only now the IIyama is connected to the x800 secondary according to windows, although they're still attatched the same to my gfx card :)

Anyone else has some ideas?
I could take the monitor apart and see if the wiring is still intact? or isn't this a good idea..

Generally, thats not a great idea with LCD monitors unless you are fairly confident

Are you sure you have CTX pv520? Not the CTX pv510 which would display as you are experiencing...

Yes I'm pretty sure about that, this is a pv510, and this is a pv520, and mine looks like the 2nd one, and it's not that you easily see that wrong... :)

just checking.... since its the simplest answer

You have tried making it your primary monitor
Use different Cables...

Is the monitor registering as Plug and Play? There may be a special color profile for the CTX pv520 that you need to download to have the monitor run correctly...

Otherwise, I would say you have a broken monitor. I have no idea where it would be broken or how to fix it (not much experience in this area)

Hopefully someone who knows will chime in...

buh... was also getting pretty sure it was broke. And i had installed the drivers from the CTX website, so that color profile is installed, and is working, the monitor is visible as CTX PV520 btw, not as plug and play monitor, or whatever it was first.

i'm going to wait a few days, and then open the monitor(of there is no answer that helps :p) and just check the wiring REALY carefully ;)

checked that, it was a Yes- No option, but I didn't realy saw a difference whether it was on or off...

btw, is it normal that i can't choose/use the "Text/GFX" option in "quality" on the OSD ? (well, it gives me "NO effect!" just as with "Focus" )
