LCD - cannot display input?

I have a Dell 1901FP hooked up to the DVI input of a GF3 VIVO. Occasionally, but not always, when the monitor goes into power save mode I get a message "digital input: cannot display this video mode." And the only way to fix it is to reboot the computer. It has also done this at other random times (not just when in power saver mode.) I've installed the driver off the Dell CD but that doesn't help.

Looks like the timing sent by the graphics card is out of range. Watch the refresh rate of all your video modes - it shouldn't be anything but 60 Hz everywhere.

On the same monitor I get the same message when I do a reboot. I always figured it's the "no video signal" message that comes up on so many monitors that lets you know the monitor is working but the video signal isn't getting through. I use the analog input by the way and will eventually get a video card that will use the DVI.

It doesn't bother me. I've never been able to get power save to work well and reliably nor the get the hibernate or sleep to work on this Dell 4550 I've had for a year plus.
