LCD Bowing?

Setral

Hey, I just bought an NU 17" 8ms from NewEgg and got it in Today.

Is it normal for LCDs to appear as if they bow in the middle? I mean looking between a CRT and the LCD, the LCD almost appears to bow in the middle, its kinda hard on the eyes right away and not sure if I just need to finish adjusting settings for the system, or if its the Monitor.

Any help, direction to sites with LCD info, or anything like that would be appreciated!

If the CRT you previously used was not flat, it's just that your eyes have gotten used to the screen curvature and haven't yet adjusted to the flat screen. I had the same feeling for a few days after I switched from a curved CRT to my current flat one.

When I switched from a curved CRT to a flat CRT, the image looked funny as well. It's just that your eyes have gotten used to the curvature of the image and the geometrically correct image on the LCD now looks sorta funny. Having used a flat monitor for so many years and then using someone's old curved CRT the difference is huge and noticeable. In time you'll get used to the difference.

Curved CRT's suck!

My first flat monitior was a 17in IBM Flat Shadow Mask monitor and I have never looked back since then.

Yeha, I still have curved NEC 21" shadow mask on my retro game machine and it looks quite weird now that I have gotten used to a flat one. 😛

Thanks for the info guys!

BTW, the NU 17" 8ms Two-Tone Monitor is definately worth the money, if you don't want DVI or higher than 1280x1024. 🙂

I'llj ust have to get completely used to the flatness of it.

I can't say I've noticed any 'bowing' effect myself - and I use both LCD and CRT all the time.... maybe the monitor settings are a little out.

Could you take a picture with a digital camera (taking a screenshot on the computer won't show it)?
