Hi all,

I just ordered a Dell 2405FPW LCD monitor and was looking to upgrade the DVI cable to a better one. Apparently, there are several different types of DVI cable (eg. DVI-I single and dual link, DVI-D single and dual as well). Can anyone tell me if most LCD monitors have the four analog pins (2 on top and 2 on bottom) on the cross hair next to the 24 (3 rows of 8 pins)?

I would assume that the LCD display would have no use for the analog pins. I have seen a picture of the DVI input on the 2405FPW. It does appear to have the 24 digital pins, but I can't tell if it has the analog pins with the cross hair.

Thanks.

I'd use the cable you already have first. You can use a DVI-I or DVI-D cable, they both fit. You don't have to worry about dual link cables unless you have a Dual link DVI connector on your video card.

From what I've heard the stock 2405 cable is just fine. In fact, some people have reported having IQ issues using other cables. (IIRC, one person had upgraded from the 2005FPW to the 2405FPW and didn't bother changing cables and had some IQ problems until he used the one that came in the box with the 2405FPW). I'd wouldn't bother switching cables unless you actually have some IQ issues.
