I have a Viewsonic vp201b on my wifes pc and a Dell 2001fp on my backup pc.

They are both GREAT lcd's and i paid less for the DELL.

So , In my Opinion, lookup / compare prices of the Dell 2001fp and the viewsonic vp201b and grab whichever gets you the best price. ;)

You know the Gateway widescreen 20ish inch is about $600 before taxes. You can get them at Best Buy.

Wow, dont know what reviews you've read but the Vp201b and the 2001fp perform identicle.
SERIOUSLY, i see both of them everyday. ;)

And the 2005 is great if you want widescreen. (i have a 2405fpw also)
Dont let native rez scare you away, all these lcds scale very nicely to whatever rez your vid card likes and most games are easily edited to widescreen resolutions.

get the 2005fpw, even if you can't run it at native resolution it scales VERY NICELY.

I'd recommend the 2005fpw. Excellent gaming monitor :) .

Resolution scaling is the best i've ever seen on an LCD and most new games support 1680x1050 including fear( hack the config file). Just make sure you have a good vid card

How is the screendoor effect on the 2005fpw compared to the 2001fp, because I definitely noticed a screendoor effect on the 2001fp.

I have a 2405 and a 2001fp, love them both.

I can only imagine that the 2005fpw is just as lovely.

So I too vote for the 2005fpw.

Not just to jump on the 2005fpw recommending bandwagon, but I too have a 2005, and I recommend it whole heartedly. Also , what was said about cost is true.. you can definitely find one less than $600 that's for sure.

I like the widescreen resolution on my 2005FPW, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it gets me off. :)

Games are more and more supporting widescreen resolutions. The ones that don't offer a drop down menu to set the rez, usually have a file that can be easily edited to make it work widescreen. www.widescreengamingforum.com is an incredibly useful site as well that can help you with this. IMO, widescreen is worth the extra effort. I am really happy with my Dell 2005FPW, and they are a lot less now than what I paid for mine.

Ok so now u guys got me thinking even more damn it:). I just have one stupid question ....
When a game doesnt support that 1680x1020 res then in what res does it crop too? can the monitor crop it to 1600x1200 (which i dont think is possible cuz the monitor doesnt operate in that res , thats why i said its a stupid question).

Your monitor could scale the image to fill the screen at 1600x1200, but it will look stretched , so you'd choose a widescreen equivelant like 1680x1050.

But if the game cant do that, then you'd just let the monitor scale/stretch the image or play in 1:1 mode, with black borders to keep the aspect ratio.
