Layout changes in Word

Since I use Word 2010 when I change some layout the whole text is changed. I need to click the 'undo' for putting it back. For instance: if I select one word and change it to bold, the whole text is changed to bold. When I click 'undo' everything is back to normal, but the word I selected to be bold stays bold. The same goes for italics, font color, font size and type, etc.
I don't think this is normal but I would like to know how I can stop this. Do you know how?

A guess is that somewhere along the line of creating your document you added in an "update style".

Although the problem description in the link given below is not your exact situation, it appears sufficiently similar and might help you to repair your document template.

This seems to be the solution. Amazing. I couldn't have find it myself. Although my Word version is 2010 and the given link goes as far as 2007, this was the solution for 2010 too.
