i live in zone 5-7 and id like a privacy hedge, the first one would need to be about 4-5 feet high it doesnt matter how wide, fast growing

the second one is for an area that is about 5 feet wide and 6 feet high fast growing also
(its the chain-link fence from my driveway to the backyard.)

what should i use?

ideas?

I'm also thinking of a hedge or an 8' Cedar fence......... I'd like to go with a hedge as it's less costly. I'd like some ideas about this also.

Siege--- don't forget about Managability/Trimming. Some hedges can be a PINA to trim.

Common hedge plants would be boxwoods and yews. Not terribly fast-growing so you might consider some of the following:

- Mountain Laurel or Arborvitae would work.
- Nandina would work well in zone 6 and 7. They're evergreen but if temps fall below, say, 10F, you'll see some branches die back but the plant will recover.
- Viburnum. There are LOTS of varieties so shop around. Some are evergreen and some aren't. Some have better-smelling blooms than others.
