Does anyone actually read what the subject is before replying anymore?

How does Lavasoft's Personal Firewall compare to all the others out there?

Skip the software firewall and use an inexpensive cable/dsl router. If you insist on a software firewall Kerio is a well-respected solution. Lavasoft's firewall is a rebranded and trimmed down version of Outpost.

Actually Johnny Boy. You have yet to answer the question young paddyWON
Again............ for the other "Johns" out there...........
How does Lavasoft's Personal Firewall compare to all the others out there?

The word "Compare" is in there and I never asked about anything "Hardware". Use the force.

Compare = Lavasoft against another Software Firewall. (simple)

Norton user + bad attitude + lack of clarification in OP = PEBKAC

Nothing in your OP, or your bold underlined statement, said to comment on software only. I took the time to give you a hint that Lavasoft is a glorified Outpost. If you do a search on this forum you will find very little info on the Lavasoft firewall because there are better solutions. If you don't want to take my word for it then I suggest you perform a simple google search.

You did read the Title and Summary before posting?

All I asked was a Comparison between Lavasoft's Firewall and the others that are currently out there. This is clearly stated in the TITLE and SUMMARY. Since you cannot read and I did not ask your opinion on what one was the best..... please leave the question to be answered by someone that knows it.
Since you cannot grasp the question, you should let this one slide by.

John, you need both software and hardware firewalls. Hardware firewalls arent enouph.

While some may agree that both are essential for safe computing, it isn't necessary to use both. A lot depends on the type of environment, and of course the end users overall knowledge and common sense. In most cases a single hardware solution is more than adequate. Not to mention a sysadmin will rarely deploy software firewalls to a client system; instead they are aimed at the home user.

I suppose the only place that you'll find firewall brand comparisons is in magazines & maybe in some blogs & places like that.

I haven't even heard of the Lavasoft firewall you asked about, although I've used Lavasoft Ad-Aware Plus for years.

On various computers of mine I've used Zone Alarm, Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky and nVidia firewalls.

Haven't made any comparison study of them.

All I really care about is how my firewalls test at Shields Up!.

As long as all your ports are stealthed, so nobody can get in through your modem or lan, what more do you ask of a firewall?

The ones I listed all passed the Shields Up! testing completely, so they're all fine by me. They all do their thing effectively.
