Lava Lamp Kills Trailer Resident

Analog

KENT, Washington (AP) -- A man who placed a lava lamp on a hot stovetop was killed when it exploded and sent a shard of glass into his heart, police said.

Philip Quinn, 24, was found dead in his trailer home Sunday night by his parents.

"Why on earth he was heating a lava lamp on the stove, we don't know," Kent Police spokesman Paul Petersen said Monday.

After the lamp exploded, Quinn apparently stumbled into his bedroom, where he died Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Police found no evidence of drug or alcohol use.

Ahh the ol lava lamp on the hot stove asplodes sending a shard of glass into your heart deal. I see it all the time. When will people learn to be patient and let the lamp heat up on its own!

BTW, I just sent that to two of my nephews who are always complaining about the bulbs in their lava lamps burning out. 😀

Oh, what a sign of relief. When I first saw the thread title, I imagined this person had inserted the lava lamp into a particular body cavity and accidentally cooked himself. 😱

This really isn't Darwin worthy. Sure, you can predict that the stovetop thing will ruin the lamp, but the shard through the heart thing is pretty bizzarre.

<- looks forward to the warning label on future lava lamps...

"warning: do not heat on stove. Do not drink contents. Do not..."

I don't buy it, I bet the medical examiner will find that one of the kid's hick buddies did him in and pinned it on the lava lamp. Why would the glass explode with such force to enter his heart? Cracked glass and maybe a little asploding but unless he filled it with kerosene first, I doubt it.
