Those things are so fucking hideous and ridiculous... every time I see those commercials, I cringe.

$10 says that some docuhebags in these forums actually bought a set or two...

She said she was aware of criticism her predecessors received for buying expensive china, but said it was paid for with private money.

She was also careful to use U.S. companies Lenox Inc., and Pickard China to produce the plates.

I'd figure lefties would be happy.

I applaud the use of American companies...and I'll be surprised if the monies used haven't been used as tax deductions somewhere along the line...

A tax deduction for creating American Jobs? Oh noes!

Wasn't that Obama's big planh?

First time I saw the commercial I was flipping channels and thought the commercial was a spoof from SNL. Then I realized it wasn't a joke. I bet the people who ordered the plate also ordered the BHO coins too.

Its a nice gesture' considering how much "the family" made in Iraq contracts, like buying your biggest customers a bottle of scotch at xmas time.

... it was paid for with private money.

lets just go ahead and end the thread right here.

Not without pointing out that it still comes to over $1500 per setting.

Privately donated or not, that's an obscene amount to spend on plates.

I think we need to be a bit more concerned about the 1.2 TRILLION that Obama is going to spend ABOVE what we pay in taxes. That can buy a lot of senate seats.

The huge deficits run up by Bush and the Republican Congress are ok, but now that a Democrat is going to have to clean up Bush's mess you want to bitch about money?

I see this as nothing but a tempest in a tea pot.

Its basically not on the tax payer dime, the China set does not have the GWB crest of arms on it, maybe some would want to question wasting a half a million bucks, but there are far more important issues to worry about at this time. Its hard to get angry at a plate, and in a few years no one will remember as that China set will simply becomes another part of White House paraphernalia.

And yes, there will be a GWB Presidential library also, as scholars will use it to learn the lessons of the GWB Presidency from a longer perspective of time. But no lessons will be learned from a China set.
But I can hope that Obama will not not have a similar desire to buy yet another set.
